Can anyone recommend a triple-LED host that can take a 20mm driver with a mechanical tail switch?
I’m interested in all cell sizes and both reflector and TIR optic options.
The only options I can find are the Convoy S12 which has a triple reflector and a 22mm driver cavity, or possibly a Convoy S2/S2+ with the driver soldered to the pill.
The Jaxman E2L host is a good choice. No spacer is needed as the optic compartment comes optimized for a 20mm Carclo triple TIR. It also has excellent heatsinking for a tube-shaped light with a unihead construction and good heatsink fins.
The Jaxman E2L is also compatible with 18350 and 18500 Convoy body tubes if you wish to use shorter cells than 18650.
Thanks. The driver I want to use is actually already available in the triple XP-E2 P60. I saw the bare driver first and it never occurred to me that it might be available in a complete light.
I’m definitely planning to build an E2L one day but it takes a 17mm driver and for my next build I’m planning to use this 20mm driver from Kaidomain. I think an S2 or S2+ with a kiriba-ru spacer might be a better option as I could solder the driver to the pill.
Currently I’m planning to attempt the build with a Convoy S12 host and try to cut the traces on the MCPCB so I can connect the LEDs individually, but I’m still interested in alternative hosts.
What kind of throw distance can be expected in an E2L with Xp-e2’s and Carclo 10507? Dome on or off, whatever estimate would be appreciated. I know its not thrower light, just curious. Thanks
Better hurry, there’s only 1 E2L host left! I have built 2 triple E2Ls. They are very high quality hosts, slightly smaller than an S2+, and have excellent heat transfer. I wonder if Jaxman will ever make the hosts again?
I want to build a triple with LEDs that have three different CCTs, but rather than mixing them operate them individually. It’s a silly idea but I thought it would be a bit of fun.
I’m planing to use the KZ-3016 driver which switches between three separate LEDs with one mode (1.5A) each. I though the KDLITKER P6-TRI used this driver, but I’ve just noticed that it has two modes for each LED, so I might try to get one of those drivers too.
If I was building a regular triple I’d probably use a BLF A6 driver or a led4power LD-A4.
Are you using a reflector or a spacer and optic for your C8?
I’ve always been a bit put off by the price of the E2L:
host + MCPCB + optic = AU $49.11 (US $33.56) including shipping
pre-built light with 219Cs = AU $49.57 (US $33.88) including shipping
Then I added up the cost of an S2+ host plus, MCPCB and optic from intl-outdoor and spacer from kiriba-ru and it came to comes to AU $56.99 (US $38.95) so the E2L actually seems to be quite good value.
Obviously you can save a bit by combining postage, and I tend to accumulate parts over time, but it was a bit of a shock how much a basic triple build costs even before you factor in a driver and LEDs.
I build lights for fun, not to save money, but I’m starting to think about all the nice about all the Emisar, Fireflies, and even Astrolux models that could add something different to my collection rather than ‘just another tube light.’ Luckily all of the parts for this build have already been purchased.
It looks like Kiriba-ru doesn’t have any C8 spacers and optics listed at the moment, but you’ve made me wonder whether the reflector and MCPCB from a C8F 2100 would fit in a Convoy C8. I think it’s pretty unlikely bit I’ll have a look when I get home.
Edit: The C8F 2100 reflector and MCPCB won’t fit in a regular C8.
