New here so I am not sure if it’s the right place.
I am looking for a 20mm star/round MCPCB than can accept 3 leds at once in SERIES. (nichia 219c, to be precise)
Damn this is hard to find. Almost all of them are for parallel wiring. Some of those can be made “individually addressable with some cutting but that’s still not it because of common +.
Well, I bought one from a well known shop, but he sent me the wrong item. Still waiting for his answer.
I found several on every continent, but they all come with 20€ shipping fees. Even from Germany to France, come on…
Kaidomain and Ali sell Kaidomain ones, which supposedly mess a bit with carclo optics.
There is this one in MTN Electronics.
It comes from the USA, though, so you always need to pay more expensive shipping and eventually import fees when it arrives to France.
I can attest that the KD MCPCBs do not work well with Carclo optics.
I’ve ruined many LEDs before figuring that out. The Carclo optics do not fit well on the KD boards which makes them press against the LED domes and can cause damage. Very frustrating.
Only use KD optics with KD boards.
Here are some pics that show the damage caused by a Carclo optic pressing against some LEDs on a KD board:
Yup, that was the one I was referring to. It’s out of stock so he sent me another pcb, which is made for parallel only. That’s frustrating because I bought from him specifically for this item, the rest of the order was quite common items. I will see what he says about that. He could have told me before shipping…
Well, the picture makes it look like the optics is laying on the optics as the legs are too short to touch the base. But I thought Kai pcbs were thinner than usual…
But ok, I was just cold about this brand, I will not buy their stuff except for a complete build, maybe. Thanks for the feedback !
Thank you very much, my fellow omelette du fromage enjoyer !
Actually, I didn’t know it was possible to cut the pcb, and I just came up with the same drawing !
Do you have any advice considering the tool to make such cuts ? I thought about the dremel, but I fear the disk will be to thick for this work. (even though I have to admit that there is not much to loose…)
This is perfect, since I need to have a capacitor in series with the last led. Shorting the bottom left connector, and the one bellow the “2-”, I can solder a 3rd wire to the small round copper thing, which will be thus connected to the + of rhe last led !
I usually use a scalpel or box cutter (un simple cutter quoi), I do 2 cuts and then peel off the copper in between. Check for continuity to be sure the traces are properly cut.
I went a tad too far with the cutter at the bottom left cut, but it is pretty light so I think only the superficial layer is touched.
I also ground 3 spaces on the edge, the goal is to make some way for the wires, to let them pass in the pill’s holes. (otherwise I would have had to drill the center, this was easier).
