I sometimes review things other than flashlights, and this is my latest camera tripod review. This review is of the Punks Billy 2.0 tripod from British manufacturer 3 Legged Thing. This carbon fiber tripod only weights 1.57kg, yet can reach a decent 1.66m. Full review below:
Based upon my ancient experiences with DPReview I would like to say that this is a pretty solid review.
Being a typical Dutchman, the disclaimer raises a question. How much was you wallet enlightened by purchasing this tripod?
Thanks for the review.
18kg load capacity sounds great (could be just the thing for a use case I have here), but assuming the load is perfectly balanced, is it real?
Thanks. It cost me AU$447.
My personal opinion for tripods is to stay below 1/3 of rated load capacity. Weight distribution will also be a factor. Different manufacturers have varying definitions of max load capacity, so I would always take max load capacity claims with a pinch of salt. For anything approaching 18kg I would be looking at a more hefty video orientated tripod, with dual leg struts.
Thanks for that. I used to rate tripods the same way I rate telescope mounts: 50%. Will take your 1/3 suggestion under serious consideration from now on!
From this company (which I have no affiliation with, I would think that the Nicky and Tommy tripods would be more suitable for an approx. 18kg load. They are rated to 60kg load.
