Yes I noticed that

http://www.luminus.com/products/SSM-80.html

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Doubtful. That thing is almost as large as an SST-90, and has a forward voltage of 12-13V.

It IS a SST-50 with another name that a Chinese wanted. It is like those flashlights claiming 1900 lumens for a XM-L T6...

I think you are absolutely right. I've been picture hunting for emitter pics and they look nothing like the SSM 80 (that is a 4xdie emitter) but completely like the SST 50.

(Dang those beamshots... I need a napkin! )

I want this...

It is all your fault! I just bought this light and when my wife finds out I'll tell her it is all your fault!

No way am I taking the blame for this one. With the beamshot porn in this thread, who can resist! I had to do it.

Seriously though - thank you for posting all this, also about how to optimise the output. but I still blame you LOL

If you need help, post it. ;)

I just might pick you up on that :-)

@ Andi

Now I just ordered the ucl lens too. First time I ever paid 10 USD for a small piece of glass. Strange experience to do that. Felt like I was crossing a invisible border...

Since you have posted this I cannot wait to get my hands on it. Cant wait to get home and mod it. But I'm stuck on this boat for another month! Ugh

Anyhow..

I was thinking that since you had Fritz 15 shorten the battery tube for use with 1 18650 batt then he must know what threads are on the head. I would love to know that! It could be that I can machine a short fat battery tube for 2 x 18650 or even 3 x 18650 in parallel if I just know what the thread size is.

Soo, can I ask you to ask him about the threads? Pretty please with sugar on top? The type, angle, Inner Dia. and Outer Dia. plus width of the flats.

It would be such a cool light if I can make it a little stubby 3 x 18650 light.

I ask him. ;)

For 2 x 18650, or 3 x 18650 you can use orig. Driver and battery tube.

But it´s not needed, to shorten the batterie tube for using 7135 Driver and 1 x 18650.

You can also use original parts and a ~48mm spacer(Battery dummie). ;)

Makes the flashlight ~5cm longer, but works also.

Hi,

I am sorry, I can not help you that much. I cut the Threads with my lathe. But I just turned the body down to a bit more (about 0.1 mm) than the original outer diameter of the thread and then I cutted the threads deeper and deeper until the tailcap fitted on the body. The pitch (is that the correct word?) was about 1.20 to 1.25 mm sorry, I do not remember :(

If you have more questions or if I was unable do express me just ask :D

Fritz

Welcome to the forum, Fritz.

Your custom torches and lathe work are very much admired.

Do you have any photos to share with the members who may not be familiar with your work ?

Hi,

thank you very much :)

I just started a new thread with some of my lights :)

Thank you aurum, but unfortunately only users can see the pictures.

Fritz

Oh, i hope you ordered a UCLp, not UCL. ;)

@ Andi: Yes I think that is what I ordered. (I hope) I never tried to order glass before so...

@ Fritz15: Thank you for the info. Thats how I would have made it too if I was to do it so thats perfectly understandable. I was half expecting that answer :-)

And for you both - do you know the inner diameter of the threads in the head. That is to say, what is the smallest diameter inside the threaded part of the head? Then I might just be able to come up with something anyway.

My problem is that at work (at sea on a ship) i have accees to a lathe. But not at home. And since a lathe is a big investment ( to me at least) I dont see myself getting one in the near (or not so near) future. So if I get the inner diameter then I hope to have time for making a tripple battery tube with the batteries in parallel. Hell I might just do a 2p2s battery tube and use original driver. Would give me better runtime that I am after.

Does anybody know if the original driver is constant current or does the output fall from first start of the light?

Thanks again for helping so much. That is just so nice of you. Wish I could buy you a beer or something. :-)

Here is the outer thread diameter of battery tube <> head.

Driver i can´t say. ;)

I know I am repeating myself here. But TY very much ;-)
