Trying to find a good quality bike light with high CRI

Hey guys,

I’ve been trying to find a good bicycle light that I can use both on-road and off-road when I’m hunting. Having high CRI would be great as it’ll be easier to track blood trails.

I was looking at this, but I don’t think Cree XP-L2 is all that great CRI-wise: Strada Mk12 SB AKTIV – Exposure Lights

I’d love to hear some suggestions on what other people are using.

I was a bike bike commuter for 10-12 years and used a variety of lights, usually multiple lights at once. My neighbor’s used to say I looked like a motorcycle when I rode up after work. The best single light I used was a Convoy C8 i got from Mountain Electronics. It combined the light head portion of a Magic Shine with a body of a single 18650 powered flashlight. I have no idea what the CRI was but it worked really well as a bike light that allowed me to replace the battery if I was away from home instead of needing to ride home and use the dedicated charger for the Magic Shine. I can’t tell you about using it for hunting but if you have any other questions…

From looking at the light you are considering, and the fact you wish to use it “off-bike” is it safe to assume you want a light that leans more towards a flashlight format than a dedicated bike light format? (the latter is usually machined aluminium with bar/helmet mount and separate battery pack).

What’s your budget? Do you know how many lumens and how many cd you need? Or just rough beam shape (spotlight Vs floodlight). What runtime do you need? What light(s) are you currently using, what do you like about them, what do you wish they would do better?

For casual bicycle use, I really like the twofish lockbloc style rubber + velcro mounts for 18650 or 21700 sized lights, it allows me to use one of my many flashlights or headlamps on the bars. Okay, it’s not StZVO certified, but I aim the light down and don’t run it on a lower setting when on the road.

I’ll often use my Zebralight H600 or Skilhunt H0something with the rubber mounts, because they’re right angle lights, you have 2 axis of rotation, around the bars plus around the axis of the light.
