Two XM-L2 T6 3C - large tint difference?

Hi,

FYI, I just found this thread:

Not sure what to think, but I actually have 3 lights that I reflowed. The first was an MSA20 using an XM-L2 T6 3C that I removed from a Noctigon that I got from IOS awhile ago. I liked the tint from that one the best, which is why I ordered 2 XM-L2 3C emitters when I bought the MSA10 and MSC10 (from the same vendor, not IOS).

Now, I have 3 Niteye ligts, all with XM-L2 T6 3C emitters, but all 3 with completely different tints.

I still like the 1st one the best, on the cool side of neutral.

Then, one that I would call actually neutral white.

Then, there’s the 3rd one, which is the too greenish one, which I REALLY dislike.

Haven’t heard back from the vendor yet though….

I had a similar experience with XM-L T6 3C tint from Fasttech. One was a really nice neutral tint leaning slightly towards pink, the other leaned much more noticably towards green.

I think with 3C it’s just at a spot on the colour chart where even within the bin the differences can be noticable.

Tint variations are not uncommon within the same bin. Most of the time they are quite similar in the same cut tape, but variations do happen.

I have about 3 lights with 4C bins, and love all of them..

Because of the 3C`s I got a long time ago, I thought I didnt like Neutral White tints. Everyone was talking about NW 3C, but I didnt like them.
But when Simon,(convoy flashlights) did his Convoy S5 campaign, I decided to try a NW 4C, and loved it..

Since then I took my words back, I finally liked NW tints.

edit: I think that convoy S5 was my first 4C.. not really 100% sure anymore

Out of three 3C XM-Ls I’ve put in lights only one wasn’t overly yellow. I like a nice neutral white around ~4200k; I have to wonder how often a bad tint convinces people that they dislike “neutral white.”

Yeah, you’re right on there. If the first NW light I ever got was one with the same tint as that greenish 3C I mentioned in this thread, that would have, similar to how ChibiM mentioned, totally turned me off of NW.

I think a similar thing could be said about CW though. I’ve had some CW lights that were so purple, and if those were the only CW lights I had, I’d probably not want CW either!!

My xml t6 3c lights are very nice but my xml2 3c lights have more green in them

I like the XP-G2 2B so far, cool but not harsh. I've only installed 2, so can't say how much variation there is.

Well, I just can’t stand that one with the greenish beam, so I’ve ordered some new XM-L2 T6 3C emitters to replace it… I guess I’ll see if any of those come close to the 3 I have already.

Add me to the group that has struggled with green from XM-L2 3C. I was able to minimize the green in my S2 with careful reflector spacing.

I have found I prefer the tint of the 3B. It’s my current favorite.
