UF-T20, irritating ring when beam is focused to narrow.

I have a UF-T20 host that many here like, but once I put it together (using XM-L2 T6 led) I noticed an irritating very wide ring when the beam is focused to narrow beam. It’s really wide and I can see it’s coming from the glass lens, not by bouncing of the side of the bezel.

Is this standard on the UF-T20 and people don’t care? I hardly tried the light stock so I don’t remember weather this was visible before I replaced the parts.
How about with other LEDs or de-domed LEDs? Can I get rid of this ring by replacing or de-doming the LED?

Could be a projection of the pill.
The lens just projects what’s in the head.
Paint the shiny bits inside the head matte black, would solve that.

Ahh, I never thought of that… and I could be getting this ring when others don’t because I have raised the LED in order to widen the beam on flood. I’ll try this when I get home tonight, thanks for the tip!

It is not only the pill itself but the inside of the body-tube that you are seeing, it is bare aluminium, and indeed just blacken it, the easiest way is: grab a permanent black marker. It will almost be gone then. A nice touch that I did: I blackened it first, then painted it with 'aqua' glow-paint. Looks spacey when you switch off the light, but prevents getting out the pill after that.

I put tape over to test, but still got the ring… But I figured it out… When I had reassembled the light I had put the o-ring in first, the glass on top of that and then screwed in the threaded ring. This gave me the ring. Now I put the glass in first, then the o-ring, and the annoying ring in the beam is gone!

Thanks guys, I wouldn’t have figured this one out with your help!

Huh? the o-ring should be under the lens as far as I know. should give that a try then... Is is still waterproof like that?

To be honest: don’t know, don’t care, the ring is gone!

I thought the o-ring should be under it too, that’s why I reassembled it that way. But because of the raising of the LED, the angles have changed (see pic) and that’s probably what gives me this issue but no one else. I don’t really mind that the light might be less resistant to water, I don’t intend on using it in the rain.

Daggum…that’s alot of copper

Interesting that it has a pill like the C8…hmmm

I’ve added some copper wire, there’s a lot of room there:
