Hi, thanks for the responses, sorry I’ve not been back on, works a bit too busy and I’m making back some brownie points after my weekend away off roading with Dylan. I’m on baby duty.
Anyway, I’d already found heinie Hayes, and you’ve helped me seperate the crop from the chaff. I’ve rounded it down to a few makes, off the top of my head, boker plus, sog, Sheffield knives, opinal, I’ll do a bit more pondering before I order.
Swiss army knives are definitely out, they are what turned me off non locking knives in the first place as a young scout, buying a non locking knife is a sore point at best, without going back to knives I’ve seen fail and cause accidents. Making a locking knife non locking also seems a potential risk, both from the point of view of making a mistake, and the fact that in the eyes of the law, it may still be seen as a locking knife, not worth the risk with so many other options available.
It’s also been hinted on British blades that a good idea is to not go for a more tactical looking edc - the less aggressive it looks the better, in that light, wooden handles and a sheep’s foot? Blade shape may be preferable - less stabby, more a tool than a weapon, I guess more a contractors knife than anything.
Anyway, enough rambling, I’ll keep you posted on what I order, an as I have Christmas on the way and quite a few kids and nephews to buy for, it may have to slip down the priority list a little, just like buying more lights
Thanks for the help. 8)
