UltraFire UF-900 1200LM - Need help

Hi guys i am new to this forum,

i just bought this flashlight on ebay

I have a few queries:

1) will this torch support two cells if yes where can i get the extension tube for this
2) which are the cells which will give max brightness

Got this with two ultrafire cells and charger…but notices that there is flicker in the torch and cells are dying in 15-20 minutes.

kindly advice,

regards,
Manoj

Hi Manoj

The description does not state whether it can support 2 cells if it can then the maximum voltage will be 8.4v. I think the max is4.2v therefore 1 18650 battery only.

These batteries are good for the price. If you can spend more money get panasonic based batteries like the Xtar 2900 and 3100.

any idea on why there is the flickering effect on the torch….is it because of the batteries…. or is it something else

You may need to clean the contacts in the head and tail. Make sure that everything is tight. Make sure that the tailcap in screwed in and the pill inside the head is also screwed in properly.

i will do the same and update the same….very best regards, Manoj

Does the “flickering” only happen on High ?
If it is not happening on the lower modes and only
on “High” , it could be a bad battery.
Are the batteries properly charged ?
How long does it take to charge them ?Check them just
in case with a DMM

it happens on high…
regarding batteries i put them in the supplied charger…even after two hours the red led doesn’t turn green so i usually dont go beyond the 2 hr limit.

also after putting in a charged battery and continous use for about 20 mins on high the brightness rapidly falls

The batteries may take up 5 hours to charge. Check your PM.

charger keeps getting hot …. hope it does not burn

Hi, Manoj…

Welcome to the forums. It’s a happenin’ place here!

And welcome to the world of Chinese budget lights—this may well be your first experience with high lumen claims and faulty batteries.

That “1200 lumen” is, without any doubt, too optimistic, and if you got cheapie batteries that came with it, they are no doubt low capacity batteries recycled from laptops. They take longer to charge and you get no more than 20 minutes from them. Very common.

Clean the contact points, fully charge the batteries (may take about 6 hours), tighten everything up (make sure the inside of the tailcap is tight, too) and give it another try. Anytime you order a budget light, always put in the PP notes to check for body damage, flickers, and defects. Too often, this stuff comes from some warehouse and you never know what you are getting.

Did the light come in generally good condition? How far does the beam throw?

Thanks for your suggestions.
I got the light a few days back…it came in pretty good condition with good machining. Except one small scratch on the tail cap all seems to be fine.

The light is quite bright.

Without charging batteries like you suggested for six hours…i did only for 2hrs ….it was throwing for i guess 100m +….but duration was say about 20mins.

today will charge the batteries like you guys suggested for 5 –6 hrs and see how it performs….But as ur suggesting…the lumen might surely not be 1200….but dont know how much it is as there are no expert reviews on this particular model.

Manoj

hi guys which cell will give maximum brightness on this torch…also if i plan to use 2 cells what all needs to be modified on this one - regards Manoj

any suggestions

Good quality cells are made my Panasonic, Sanyo, and Samsung, and XTAR repackages the ones made by Sanyo and Panny.

You’re not going to get a brighter light if you use two batteries, so there basically isn’t a reason to modify the light.

If you insist though, you’ll need to swap the driver so that it accepts 8.4 volts as well, and you’ll need some 18350/16340 cells. Or you can use an extension tube and use two 18650 cells for twice the run time.

can you kindly suggest from where these drivers can be sourced….and which this torch wil accomodate. regards manoj

some decent batteries

I would suggest a budget DMM too, you can use it for checking be voltage of the Li-Ion batteries, so you know when the batteries are empty and need to be charged.
You’re able to control the cheap charger too (quite important).

Try http://dx.com/c/flashlights-lasers-999/flashlight-parts-and-tools-917/driver-boards-952

and

You’re looking for a 16.8mm-17mm driver board that can accept 8.4 volts. You might want to look into flashlight modes if you’re interesting in them too.

Hi, Manoj. I didn't see anyone mention this but make sure you don't leave the charger/batteries unattended while charging. Keep monitoring it, as it not that unusual for a charger to get warm while charging, but if it is truly getting hot.... you have a bad charger or cells.

i am checking these out and will keep you posted…… best regards , manoj
