Unprotected Samsung 18650 26D goes to 0 volts during discharge test

I was running a discharge on my new Opus 3100 to compare numbers against my Accucel 6 (which yields about 7 - 10 percent lower discharge numbers for NiMH’s and Lithium’s than the Opus). It was merrily discharging for probably 30 minutes before it suddenly showed a null reading. It read 0 volts on my DMM (and still does a day later) so I assumed the CID popped.

The battery was purchased from someone on BLF so it has an unknown usage history.

Has anyone ever had this happened where a battery died during a discharge test? And does this make any sense?

Thanks

Does it have protection that possibly tripped?

Ooops…forgot to mention that it’s unprotected.

‘You killed Kenny!’

0 volts after a day? I’d pitch it in the recycling bin.

The question of course is how it could have gone to zero volts on a charger that cuts off at 2.8v when discharging batteries. And it went to zero while the other 3 were still discharging.

something went wrong internally, it was probably at the edge and your test “broke” it
i had the same thing happen to a nicad battery pack, leaving it on the charger too long broke a cell, even though trickle charging should be harmless

+1

and will later be labeled as xxxxfire over 3000mAh
