Upcoming Sofirn HS42 - triple channel 18650 headlamp

We do use the buck driver in HS42, but due to the temperature stepdown,it won’t stay at 2000 lumens continuously. However it can maintain about 700-800 lumens

And the LEDs? Could you comment on them? For instance, could SST40 be offered in 5000K? I assume CSP 2323 have decent CRI, but would you know the dominant wavelength of red HFL1 more or less?

would you know the dominant wavelength of red HFL1 more or less?

It’s 625nm

Do you mean like HS40? tube of HS42 is not replacable,

1 Thank

Oh, so is there a way of adapting HS42 to the 18350 battery?

We didn’t prepare the short tube for HS42, because it’s designed as a headlamp. So don’t know if it can adapt 18350 battery

Could anybody with HS42 try the generic Sofirn or Wurkkos short 18350 tube and see if it would work? I’m set on smaller 18350 batteries, especially if it’s to be used as a headlamp.

My HS42 has arrived yesterday.
Unfortunately it is made of one piece with head.
In general it will be modders nightmare, the tir optic is placed without screws, I suppose it was ultrasonic welded or something.

So the tube and the head are one piece? The only removable part is the bottom cap?

1 Thank

Yep, that’s what it seems like.
(I have this light.) :slightly_smiling_face:

1 Thank

Thanks for this information and the close up photo!

This is what’s keeping me from buying the HS42 for now; it’s a very interesting headlamp, but I would really love to swap out that 6000K SST-40 for something like a 5000K SFT-40, but I’m worried that it will be very hard to get that optic out undamaged.

2 Thanks

That’s right, I thought it was tighten very strong but final look inside made me sure

3 Thanks

In general it is very nice light. I love idea of this triple channel distribution!
Beam pattern is nice, UI is quite ok, floodlight is high CRI (but I would like bit warmer) and red is great.

I even will live with this non-removable optic if they will put SFT-40 + warmer floodlight ex. 4000K.

2 Thanks

So my idea of making it shorter and lighter to use 18350 goes out the window… Maybe Sofirn will issue a Mini version of it (akin to Skilhunt) at some point (with a little warmer LEDs) for the minimalist campers among us?

I recently got this light and remembered this comment. The head and the tailcap can be removed, on mine at least based on previous comments. Unless this is somehow a new production batch. Sadly generic sofirn and wurkkos 18350 tubes won’t work since the threads on the head(v-shaped) and tailcap(square shaped) are different.

Would it be possible for @Sofirn to provide a 18350 tube that would fit HS42? I wonder if there would be a demand for it, other than me :-)

2 Thanks

Sounds good! Do you want to use HS42 mini version as headlamp or tool flashlight?

1 Thank

As a headlamp AND a flashlight. I think that the well-chosen multiple emitters, magnetic cap, regulation, small size and some kind of simple headband that can accomodate the shortened 18350 version of it (I love this Moritz’s suggestion - easy and simple headband attachment mechanism + clip accomodation) could make this lamp a universal Superstar!

I think the holder might be a limiting factor if you want a 18350 version. The clips would be too wide. You could probably use Sofirn’s silicone headband though.

1 Thank

Which headband could fit (assuming 18350 version) and could it be bought separately?

Has that been confirmed in use: i.e. long pressing from off turns on moonlight in the last memorised mode, then tripple-presses cycle through each of the 4 modes - each at moonlight level respectively?

p.s. by the look of it it’s a simple, easy to remember and functional UI, isn’t it?
