So I bought this Qi charger for my cell phone. Works perfect but it has quite an annoying beep when it starts the charge which by itself wouldn’t be a problem if it wasn’t for the fact that it beeps in the middle of the night. I guess it’s due to the battery being full and then it turns of and on the charge to keep the battery full. So…
Which component should I remove to stop the beeping? Any help would be appreciated.
Either I’m blind or its on the back side…
~ edit ~
Hope its on back the because otherwise… its the phone. :zipper_mouth_face:
I have a qi charger that don’t beep but are your sure it’s not your phone that big to confirm the wireless charging?
I also noticed that if the phone and charger are not correctly aligned, the phone get too hot, it will stop at 100% (but then stop charging and is not 100% when you wake up).
There is no piezo buzzer or so which beeps it’s just a periodically whining I guess.
I have this to on a HTC USB charger in idle mode it whines a bit.
Thank you for trying, but it’s the charger that beeps. Look at this film at 1:20
I’ll attach a picture of the backside
Wow that is indeed anoying…
Does it come from the top or the back?
The only possible part on the top is the square part with arrow and + marking, which thought it is a inductor…
But it also could be done with the coil on the back…
Blind. 8)
Black square soldered at its 4 corners, near the usb jack. Silkscreen is marked “J1” to its right. I took it for an inductor too but its a side firing smd piezo. You can cut its trace at the top right corner with a box cutter / xacto knife.
Superb! I did some picture searches on google and that one was my best bet but now when you say it is side firing it’s so obvious. I can even see the little hole at the triangle.
A big thanks for your help. I’m going to desolder it though, easy enough.
Or just put some super glue in it…
I’ve finally took the time to desolder the annoying little piezo thingy. Worked perfectly, no beep and it charges the phone like it should.
Thanks for the help Helios- !
Looks like a nice compact Qi charger. Would you be willing to check how much charge current it provides? Battery Monitor Widget. I’ve been looking for one that can provide a decent high current. Enough to support a nexus7 2013.
I will look in to it for you, but it will take a couple of days until I can do it. Going out of town for some work related stuff.
I will say though that it charges my Nexus 5 without a problem, haven’t noticed any extreme delays in charging time. But I’ll give you some numbers when I get back.
I appreciate it.
