I’m looking at flashlights with USB chargers built in. I don’t like that a lot of them use 1A charging. Is it OK to use a cheap USB charger with only 500mA current capacity to charge these flashlight? I don’t care about how long it take to charge, I just want things to stay cool. Wondering if using a lower current USB charger messes with the charge termination.
No problem, as long as the charger you are using does terminate at 4.2V. Slow charging is a good thing as heat stays down and smaller batteries like the 14500 often spec out for a max 500mA charge rate too.
But if you’re self charging light is getting hot at 1A charge rate, something is wrong. Any good battery should get slightly warm at most off a 1A charge rate.
