USB power meter/tester thread - YZXStudio, Power-Z, RDTech and more.

I don’t t think that Fnirsi has any support at all. All I can find is a phone chat (that was useless) and an email address. On Fnirsi.cn Am testing the email address. My device will not detect PD when doing a Detection. All my other USB meters do and Detection of protocols on chargers is what I use a lot.

Fnirsi, No tech support if you have an issue. Will have to return it because I can’t get help? Anyone have any other suggestions? The font, Times, and you can’t change it.

AVHzY C3 I like it, but it has some flaws. They have a great forum for tech support, drivers, software and firmware. The best of any of the USB meters.
My old ZY1276 I like the best. Only thing it does strange is flash the screen during detection. Sometimes a lot. I like its readout of protocols better and it works.
Are there any others that I should check out?

UPDATE. I did get support from Fnirsi. I first tried the QR codes. Waste of time, do not use them. What did work was the Contact us page on Fnirsi.cn (Link here —> http://www.fnirsi.cn/lxwm ). The reply took a day or two due to time zones.
The response was it is working as intended and to check PD use PD trigger. There will be no update for this issue. You must do 2 things when testing a PD device. I was going to send back the C1. I did get support so I decided to keep it. It is great, beyond that one big issue.
I found another issue. It will not detect Thunderbolt cables. I have emailed them again to see if there will be an update on that.

In this moment the top one is Witrn C4. But no one try it

I have not seen any reviews or pictures of it in use. If I had seen any I would have bought one. I only see renderings of it. Has anyone seen one?
Is the Witrn C4 better than YZXstudio ZY1280? Or ZY1278?

Another meter ( ChargerLAB Power-Z AK001):

This $30 USB-C cable includes a surprisingly awesome feature

Has anyone got the new Chargerlab Power-z C240 ???
I saw a review where it shows standby power consumption as high as 300+ mA without a load.
If all devices are like that, we can’t use it for accurate measurements.

Can someone explain how to test USB C cable resistance using FNB58?

The manual makes it sound as if only USB A cable resistance is possible, but not USB C cable?

I am looking for an inexpensive USB C cable resistance tester, if anyone has any recommendations.

Manuals says use cable, not use usbA cable.
So you can use C cable.
Mike

But how if the main connector on FNB58 is USB A?

I would have to use a A to C adapter which would throw off the measurement, no?

1 Thank

Really? It have 3 inputs. USB A, microUSB and type C.
Chapter 5 of manual. Have you ever read it?

I’ve read it. Think about it. Say you use a power source that has a USB A power output. Step 1 of the resistance test is to measure without the cable. So you plug in FNB58 directly into the power source. All good. Step 2 is to insert a cable between the power source and FNB58. If that cable is USB C to USB C, then you will have to also use a a USB A to USB C adapter to fit into that same power source that you used in step 1.

Alternatively, if your power source has a USB C power output, then you can’t even perform Step 1 because you will already have to use a cable to connect FNB58 to the power source since FNB58 does not have a male USB C port.

Yo can use cable or adapter to perform step 1 as long as it stays in circuit during step 2.
Mike

I don’t see how that’s possible when testing a USB C to USB C cable.

Does anyone know why the FNB58 won’t read an input (on any of its input ports) from a voltage source but works just fine on any other kind of input.

Other USB meters I have do read inputs from a voltage source.

Just curious, what do you mean by voltage source in this context, and what are the “other kinds of input” that you refer to?

To clarify an admittedly brief post, by voltage source (perhaps I should have written voltage REFERENCE) I mean for example, the standard AD584 reference or as another example, one of the (now defunct) Malone voltage references. The FNB58 will not read from these references when connected to them with a USB female to positive + negative alligator clips like this:

but the Charger Doctor and similar devices will read from these references.

Charger Doctor and similar devices AS WELL AS the FNB58 all quite happily read from a USB port of various sorts (as indeed they should).

Hope I am being clear?

OK. I am not sure why this would be, but I suspect that it might have something to do with USB power signaling that does not happen with such sources.

Why are you interested in doing this? I mean the device is intended to be used with USB source/sink configurations. Those are all I have ever even thought of trying with my FNB58. It has always worked fine for those situations.

Yes, something like that (signalling) was my guess too.

Why - just interested to see what the FNB58 reads from a known reference.

I guess the real question might be why the FNB will not read from such a reference source but the others do.
