Vapcell Z30 : 18650 with "50A CDR"

these days Vapcell presented a new 18650 with 3000 mAh and “50A CDR” :

Vapcell Z30

that would be better than the Ampace JP30 with 36A CDR …

the Ampace is specified with 140 A for 5 seconds, the Vapcell with 80 A …

Homepage Z30

(price is for “2pcs” …)

That’s so annoying

Every 6-12 months someone posts a new battery with a higher discharge rate

I’d rather have a 21700 cell with 7000 mah capacity 5-8 amps discharge

Most of my lights do not need over 8 amps

I need runtime

6 Thanks

Vapcell is offering the F63 21700 now. The wrap says 6250 mAh, 12.5A CDR.

Battery tech advancement seemed pretty slow for quite a few years but right now we’re getting both the super high CDR tabless cells and super high capacity cells with good enough CDR. Sodium ion cylindrical cells are just now hitting the market as well.

2 Thanks

Considering that Ampace JP30 is the only tabless 18650 on the market, this is most likely a rewrapped JP30.

The AC 1Khz IR is slightly higher than the common JP30 on the market (5mΩ vs 3mΩ). This may be a conservative spec, but it may also because of different batches.

Those just seem to be oversized 21700

Oversized? Seems to be normal 21700, size wise.

My guess is that they tested their batch, decided it can do more CDR than Ampace advertises and therefore upped the CDR, and in return got a bit more conservative on other key metrics so people don’t see at first glance it’s a JP30.

But it pretty much must be. No non-tabless can do these specs, and no other tabless 18650 exists.

I’m very excited about the tabless stuff, imo the coolest development in LiIon tech we had in years now. Especially since the JP30 got pretty close to the best high CDR 18650s in capacity, too. I bet we get a JP50 soon enough too. Wasn’t there already some 5000 mAh 21700 tabless announced, too?

My JP40 is a beast, such a cool cell.

Yeah Vapcell often more or less inflates the CDR values from battery manufacturers, like N40 (10A) are actually FEB 18650-4000mah(8A). Of course, Nitecore did the same.

1 Thank

Batteries and fake specs, name one more iconic duo

I’m curious about their new 26650 K70 (7000mAh, 15A/30A). If it reviews well I might grab some, since this could be the last hurrah for 26650s.

1 Thank

Keeppower offers four (!) versions of 26650 with 7000 mAh … :

protectedunprotected … “High Drain” … Low Temperature

so at the moment reason enough not yet to fear the dusk of this format …

and if it is … it’s well tempered …

regarding the Ampace JP30 that was mentioned here …

that is not the only 18650 with a tabless design on the market …

for example BAK some time ago presented their line of tabless 18650 and 21700 …

the 18650 is specified with 60A CDR and 120A pulse …

so I personally would not bet that under the wrap of the Vapcell Z30 there HAS to be the Ampace JP30 …

BAK tabless 18650 / 21700

Actually there are other tabless 18650 besides Ampace JP30, such as EVE 30PL and BAK 30D. But they only appear in the news, maybe some big electric vehicle and power tool companies have them, but at least they are not available in retail and secondary market. Vapcell is just a battery retailer, I don’t think they can get those batteries earlier than other secondary market sellers, so JP30 is the most likely.

1 Thank

That battery cell, but with different wrapping, I measured over 6700 mAh, which is actually very good with standard dimensions.

The K70 is probably the Sinowatt SW26650-70HP.

18650batterystore sells them and provides the datasheet.

Thanks, I have been wondering about that myself … but would Vapcell inflate the max pulse discharge current spec that much (from 21A to 30A) :grimacing:

Hmmm. I have some ofthese on order to test and my initial expectation is that I wouldn’t be rating them at 50A. But looking at the test results on the Vapcell website, they show that they not only retain full capacity at 40A, they are actually higher capacity at 40A than they are at 2A. I would have said that is impossible. I also wonder why they don’t show the result at 50A discharge. I’ll be interested to see how they perform.

2 Thanks

Tested up to 60A cintinuous current. Can’t argue with he 50A rating.

2 Thanks

This battery looks like it would pair very well with the Lume X1 18650 flashlights Hank is currently updating to. Great for those who prefer the 18650 form factor without sacrificing top end performance.

There may be a problem with your test setup or cell. The performance should be substantially better:

2 Thanks

I can’t he;p wondering why Vapcell only show test results up to 40A when they are claiming a 50A rating. I also find it hard to belive that they got a better performance at 40A than they did at 2A. It defies the laws of physics. I didn’t expect to get the same rsults as them.

The average voltage drops though, so the energy is lower. It is a remarkably small difference between 2A and 40A though, I share your suspicions
