Vastlite i7 EDC Torch Review

The Vastlite i7 is a reverse-clicky AAA-sized EDC torch with a unique design! It has a really cool tail switch with a magnet built-in.

It supports multiple battery chemistries but there is no low voltage protection. Luckily protected 10440 3.7V Li-ion cells with USB-C charging built-in are available these days.

The output is well regulated:

This version of the Vastlite i7 is geared towards high performance.

The cool white Osram GW PUSRA1.PM P8 emitter and TIR optic help achieve that.

My Lumintop Tool AAA died some time ago…
Nice tailcap design, modes seems well spaced, there’s NW option, hmm…
Judging by photos - threads are anodized so there’s mechanical lockout? That’s a must have for me in such EDC.

Yeah, the head threads are also anodised so you could unscrew it slightly to disconnect the tube from the driver. That said, you’d need to fully press the switch to turn the light on.

Thanks for clarification and review :+1:

Thanks for your thorough review, the combined clicky + magnetic base is interesting indeed.

But it looks like you’ve got an older version on review ? The newest one is only available in black, as per the manufacturer. It also features different engravings.

Yeah, I received an early sample a few months ago. I’m still catching up on reviews.

Vastlite asked for some feedback about the design and proposed multiple patterns for the head, tube and tailcap.

Aha! I was wondering where Countycomm was getting this AAA light from… I should have guessed considering they have their own Minimal Bow, too.

I recently bought the “AAA/10440 Max - Rear Click - Aluminum Flashlight by Maratac” version that @eckyeckypikang referenced, and it looks identical to the Vastlite ‘early sample’ you reviewed, (besides the etched text “MARATAC® AAA Max” on the head.)
Oddly, the countycomm product page specs say:

Emitter: New Cree XPE LED (50,000-hour lifespan)

Reflector: Smooth aluminum alloy

Lens: AR (Anti-Reflective) Coated Glass

But I’m skeptical, and I’m assuming Countycomm has the wrong specs listed, especially since what I received clearly has a TIR optic, and the emitter with placement of anode & cathode looks like Osram, not Cree.

@TimMc , Can you tell me what your experience with the reverse-clicky tail switch was like? I find it’s awkward to engage unless I’m pushing almost perfectly straight down with finger centered on the button…do you think it will “loosen up” over time? Thanks!

I’ve noticed a similar thing where if I push the big button down at an angle it might have more resistance. It does take a bit of getting used to. I haven’t broken mine in.
