need some versapak batteries and chargers.
i have been converting my stuff to lithium ion.hence dead and cheap wanted.
Good. You need to post a mod thread for this.
i will.
I remember those. I had the full 5-tool set plus other tools, ( Drill, Jigsaw, sander, trim-saw, & dremel tool. Also had the vaccum, VP Snakelight, etc.) and 20 or so of the NiCad 3.6 volt battery packs. But sadly that was 7 or 8 years ago (long before i was aware of the 18650 format) and they are long gone. If i would have had them now i would have done the same mod, and modded a I4 to power two of the Versapack bases and switched out the cells for some high-drain 18650s.
the chargers are easy to mod.
i use 1 tp4056 board for 2 packs.
the led holes are already there.i reuse 1 of the reds.add a green for ready.
looks original other than a usb cable.
i have yet to get a single direct plug charger.but i suspect i can adapt them too.
btw cheap generic laptop cells do just fine in these.
the first 2 are in a detail sander.they are matched and marked as such.
one in my pivot driver has better performance than the nicads ever did new.
i noticed that once the cell hits about 3.6v open circuit they have no torque.
so barring intentional abuse they wont get overdischarged.
since the cells are free i could care less if they die a bit early anyway.
How do you adapt the cells to the tool? Did you some how disassemble the original pack and transfer the contacts and retention base to the 18650?
i grind off the rear corner of the tube and pull the old cells out.
i save the center contact.
grind the spotwelds on it flat.i place a dab of solder paste on the + end of the 18650.center the contact cup on it.
then use my hot air station to solder it.slip it in to the plastic end then make the connection from the tube to cell can.a gob of jb quik stabilises it.
slip the plastic cap back on.
still looking for these.probably wont get any here after posting how to revive them LOL!
