WE HAVE A WINNER! - 1000 Post Giveaway - BLF17DD Driver [ENDED]

What have I learned… to come here with my questions!

The biggest skill I have learned from BLF is how to decrease the resistance in your light. It is amazing what some copper braid on a spring can do… I had no idea a spring could have such an impact on performance.

Congrats, I have learned a bit about resistors and such that I didn’t know before, I learned much more than I ever thought I would need to know about cree led’s. Heat management and wire resistance as well. Good stuff for sure.

i’m in. learned that you don’t have to bleed green to get a decent light, just mod it and you are done.

Thanks for the giveaway RMM!
I learned how to spend money I don’t have yet. :8)

count me in Richard, learned how to reflow leds.

well, after joining BLF, i have learned how to solder and use a DMM.

in before the lock. just cuz I could.

edit: nvm. late by 9 minutes

nevermind, thought this contest ended on the 8th at midnight.

I’m in, learned about Flashlights on this website. Before this site all I knew was craftsman flashlights from sears and mag lights.

ive learned that im a bigger flashaholic than i thought. ive learned that i prefer high lumen monsters and flood wall blasters over the super throwing light sabers.

I learned all kinds of stuff about LED flashlights I didn’t need to know and distract myself, and that something I thought was innocent could be very very expensive.

I learned soldering using a stainless frying pan

I learned that smoke coming out of a 7135 causes them to short and stay on and trying to troubleshoot 32*7135’s on a custom SRK board is impossible and I must rebuild it :frowning:

Learned to test LED reflow BEFORE mounting in a flashlight…DOH! (polarity is there for a reason :D)

I learned to NOT look directly at the emitter when testing them either, better to align the leads from a test battery then look away and see the light…otherwise you glare blind yourself and can’t see CRAP for the next 1/2 hour!

I learned I need to get off my duff and mod more even though I am not very good at it

I learned Mattaus is a PCB master! comfychair and rufusbduck are modding SuperGawds and no matter how hard I try I will NEVER come close to their modding prowess

I learned that noctigon or sinkpads are absolutely crucial in keeping the heat down in the emitters and allowing them to be pushed to their maximum brightness (and heat)

I respectfully request if I win to PIF it and re-roll so someone else can experience these AWESOME custom drivers designed by those excellent modders (all I did was cheerlead from the sidelines, they were the brains and brawn behind the build)

I also learned I am over 1000 posts now and must come up with my own giveaway…and SOON!

I’m in!
I don’t know if you can call my new soldering work “skillful”…
I would say it’s more or less “art”…

But hey, I’m starting it and I’m getting better and better!

Count me in!

The skill i’ve learned on BLF is how to remove and solder bare led on MCPCB!

Nice giveaway RMM. I've learned and am still learning to think before I type and to be a more positive member of a community.

I’ve learned a lot from here, from soldering to driver knowledge, optical knowledge, battery knowledge… etc. From a complete blank piece of paper, learned, and able to do some flashlight mods now.

Count me in please.

I'm in. Before I entered the BLF I awap only 2-3 drivers. Now many of my flashlighst are modfied with new LEDs, drivers and 2 with a resistor mode, like AlexGT posted here.

BLF taught me how to find suppliers to take more of my money than I ever thought I would spend on flashlights.

Where do I start!?

BLF has taught me how to de-dome, how to stack chips, what a driver is, in fact everything I know about flashlights has come from this forum.

This forum has thought me:

- What throw, flood, hotspot, driver, mcpb’s, pills etc. are

- How to desolder a driver, piggyback resistors and dedome leds

- It doesn’t matter how crap the flashlight is, one should always buy decent batteries

- If you don’t like how it is, mod it!

  • Most of all it tought me which cheap, decent flashlights to buy

I increased my self control skills.
