Yes… I killed a cheap zoomie with an XML-T6 today. I thought I’d take a shot at dedoming it.
I should have soaked it, or cut it off I suppose, but I thought I’d try just pulling it off if it didn’t seem too stuck.
It actually popped off fairly easily, but, it’s completely dead. Not even a flicker.
You probably broke/pulled off the tiny leads (very hard to see). They are (or were) kind of embedded in the dome. You can probably easily replace the emitter+star.
Indeed! Our other-side-of-the-world friend has a lot of tabs open, I guess. But we must forgive him, it has to be difficult to live all your life upside down
About the dedome, yes, leaving it in gasoline for a few hours do the job. Many clean it afterwards with isopropyl Alcohol (I did it too) and it seems to leave the phosphor alone in its place
Car fuel is very clean stuff by itself.
It’s proven to be the best way to dedome.
The dome falls apart and detaches from the chip.
Leave it in a tiny glass, submerged in the fuell for 24 hours, shake it around a bit, and there will only be some remains under the bond wires, if at all.
I use some IPA (alcohol) to rinse it afterwards, but maybe it’s not even necessary.
The phosphor layer is not affected.
I was surprised too, as car fuell is also a powerful solvent.
There are many topics about ‘dedoming’ why and how to be found here.
You don't really need to rinse it afterwards as gasoline is fugitive (evaporates completely), and alcohol almost always has water in it.
Sometimes it floats off on it's own, sometimes it needs a nudge from a toothpick or tweezers. I've also had luck putting a thumbnail on each side and squeezing it like a pimple. The dome pops straight off. :Sp
