Why is it that I don’t read anything here about the Apollo?
I have seen it on AE a couple of times and nothing screams to me to not buy it - so why has apparently no one here bought it yet?
The UI is exactly what most people and also me like, 21700 is nice, output etc. seems all to be at least decent?
I don’t know if any of the other models were 21700, but I think there are three versions of this host?
The HL3A, which was basically the same internals as the FW3A, but I’ve only ever seen old sold out listings of it. I’ve never seen one actually posted anywhere. I was going to buy a copper version to go with my FW3C, but someone else got the last one.
I seem to recall another one that wasn’t Anduril, it was a more simple firmware, maybe it was called the D2? or D1? I think the D1 was a bigger light, though.
This is the first time I’m hearing of the Apollo, but it looks quite interesting. looks to be a quad reflector light, like a competitor to that popular Acebeam 519a quad that I can’t remember the name of. I may be wrong, but the emitters look like the same Osram P9 that olight frequently uses? as long as it has a good driver, I can imagine this Apollo light to be decently or quite efficient.
The design reminds me a lot of the (long discontinued) EDC18 from Lumintop (EDC18 (Discontinued) - Lumintop), which I had my eye on for a long time (‘back in the day’) but that I’ve never bought in the end.
That was an 18650 light with a FET driver though.
I’ve looked at the Apollo several times now, maybe partially because of wanting to buy an EDC18 in the past, but so far it couldn’t convince me enough for the price that I’ve seen it for.
I noticed that too yesterday, that there are 2 versions: the “original” with 90 CRI LEDs and TIR optics and max. 1000lm output and the V2 with reflector and 1300lm output.
‘Original’:
V2:
I hadn’t noticed before that there is/was a 90 CRI version (no CCT mentioned though), which is somewhat unusual for Lumintop. That makes it a bit more interesting to me, since the V2 version with (probably) CW and low CRI LEDs might make me ending up swapping the LEDs. (And I have already more than enough flashlight projects on my hands!)
But the current price of the Apollo on Aliexpress also even tempted me, even if it might be the V2 version. Fortunately I was/am able to resist, given the fact that I already picked up a Lumintop GT18 (with included 46950 battery) a couple of days ago for € 45,-, which makes it easier to convince myself that I don’t need another flashlight at the moment!
