I’m not a horror fan but I like Alien and The Thing. Can’t go wrong with classics
Yeah, I’m with you guys. Alien and The Thing were the modern time best in my opinion.
The Human Centipede
Graveyard Shift (1990)
Needful Things (1993)
The Hitcher (1986)
Thinner (1996)
Haven’t seen the Evil Dead remake yet.
But another vote for:
American Werewolf in London.
The SAW movies never did it for me. Gore fest after gore fest - never a resolution.
Just quit after a few.
Anyone seen the last Halloween flick yet?
All the Best,
Jeff
Yeah, I saw it the day it came out.
I’m not really into horror films, although I don’t really avoid them either. Most are not so much frightening to me as they are simply unsettling. But for the question of horror movies that made an impression on me:
Event Horizon is the one of only two things I’ve seen on TV that ever gave me trouble falling asleep. I saw it as a teenager, and the impression was enhanced by seeing it on a stormy night.
The other was a “documentary” on spontaneous human combustion that my parents watched without realizing I had gotten out of bed and was secretly watching from the next room. In retrospect, they probably thought it was so absurd it was hilarious. I was probably less than 10 years old at the time, however, and was convinced that people really did burst into flames for no discernible reason.
Ohhh, I forgot about the original Alien! What an incredible movie - Sigourney Weaver was amazing. I haven’t watched it in decades and wonder if it still holds up today? I just ordered it from my public library on Blue-ray and looking forward to watching it again.
The Fog.
IMO it absolutely holds up. All practical effects and no horrifying (and not in the good way) 70’s/80’s CGI. The tension, drama, characters - all top-notch.
I watch it and The Thing at least once every year.
I like the oldie creature-features in general, and generally the source and not the remakes.
“Fiend Without A Face”
“The Crawling Eye”
“Them!”
“The Blob” (original; the remake sucked)
“Night Of The Living Dead” (original)
“The Fog” (original; the remake sucked, again)
“13 Ghosts” (both, but I like the one with The Monk better)
“The Giant Claw” (ohhhhh, the “creature”… )
“Halloween” (1 and 3)
“From Beyond”
most Vincent Price movies
“Rosemary’s Baby”
Problem is that creature-features, horror, gore, sci-fi, etc., can get conflated, as there’s lots of overlap.
thanks for listing: Them!
more like a creature-detective story, and…it has all “them” in it:
Leonard Nimoy, James Whitmore, Fess Parker, James Arness, etc.
A Quiet Place
watched Ravenous yesterday and i liked it
That one has been on my radar actually. I gotta watch it. Maybe this fall
Most of my favourites have already been listed by others. I liked the first Saw movie, it was original and I genuinely did not expect the ending. They should have left it there.
Other favourites in no particular order:
Jaws
Alien
Event Horizon
Cube
The Silence of the Lambs
The Ring
The Grudge
Dead Snow
Fritt Vilt (Cold Prey)
Cape Fear
28 Days Later
Calibre (2018)
Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992)
Frankenstein (1994)
Halloween is good, so is friday the 13th. They make it look like the killer cannot be defeated, especially Michael meyers at the end of the movie!
