wow thats beautiful traditional cutlery
Yes, Jon; the craftmanship is quite nice. The strings wrapping the wood sheath is natural rattan.
Thai knife makers now are selling their products online. Soon they may be able to market their knives internationally. Will be quite competitive.
I mentioned in my earlier post the price comparison that one Haikelite HK05 can buy two of this Thai knife. Just shows how much we have been conditioned to “over-pay” for fancy flashlights. US$100 can buy quite a lot of things, especially now that the U.S. currency is strengthening.
But rat tail tang is a big minus for me. I used to made a blade fly during branch cutting once and that’s the last time I use rat tail tang knife outdoor, kitchen work is still O.K.
Now thet’s a knoife!
I’ve been carrying this modified Baklash. I’m still working on it but it already makes me happy.
Jos, I have some thin gentlemen style knives that carry well in dress slacks, they are fine as long as the cutting chore is mild and not demanding. I love Titanium! So a knife with thick Ti scales appeals as it gives me more of what I love, and a thick robust blade to handle almost anything!
Now that I have made my own fixed blade and carry that always, the folder in my pocket can be any size, and many times I prefer a smaller blade that makes it easier to trim a hangnail or remove a splinter.
It is often said, in Texas, Go Big or Go Home! So perhaps that is a trained mentality?
As much as I love the feel of Micarta or the look of carbon fiber, it’s difficult for me to justify paying as much for a blade with handles made mostly from glue vs the nice solid Titanium option. Addicts are formed in many ways. It truly isn’t as easy to carry a monster like the Husky, but fidgeting with it is making my dexterity improve as well as my hand strength! Lol.
( I tend to not carry the FUK as it’s style is so aggressive it can shock people when I snap it open in a restaurant to shorten a straw for my son. )
Weight? Well, I carry my Titanium quad every day, always. And my new fixed blade as well. And a pocket knife of some form as well as two sets of keys. And a lot of times another pound or two of EDC. Being an everyday affair, I honestly don’t notice the weight. I do notice the Husky is solid and I love it, but realistically it will go into a rotation at some point and the Giant Mouse Sonoma will probably resume it’s favored status.
That Backlash looks very nice!
Thanks!
Finally made a MagnaCut blade for myself!
5 1/8” blade length, 1 3/4” wide with a spine thickness of .216” at the scales. 63 HRC by Peter’s Heat Treat. Wood scales are burl Eucalyptus. Titanium pins. I left the finish at a 120 grit by the ceramic belt to be more the user than the looker, it’s a lot of work to go mirror gloss only to scratch it up in use.
I managed to get the best full flat grind to date and it’s ridiculously sharp! Made a pretty straightforward Kydex sheath for it with a 1” wide quick release clip.
Very cool custom!
Protech Godfather dagger auto
Absolutely incredible
Very nice knife Dale! Not sure on what special occasion to carry it though.
My EDC today (usually I carry smaller knives) is my new Civivi Banneret with died scales. I think it is an awesome knife!
Beautiful. Didn’t know this model existed. Is it still in production?
Doubled up. My usual Kershaw Blur, this one has a S30V blade and a Boye Sheepsfoot Cobalt Blade Folder. Was out on the boat and forgot that I carried the Boye home.
It is brand new, but it came stock in grey micarta scales. I like that it feels like a full size knife but the “gentlemanly” estetics makes it not so offensive. Also it is compact when closed so easy to carry. And last the pocket clip is reversable, important for lefties like me.
Mostly keeping it budget with this Sencut Neches, although I did upgrade it to Skiff bearings.
Got this aggressive fixed blade from Ali Express during the 11/11 Sale, along with this cute Lumintop GT3 Mini.
But the blade is only good for admiration at home. Cannot EDC outside, lest facing arrest for carrying a dangerous weapon in public.
Another WE-made knife upgraded to Skiff Bearings. I also swapped scales to get this combination. With a higher price tag and Civivi moving to mid-tier, I’m not sure if this qualifies as a budget carry.
