I saw a knife that I want to buy on BladeForums.
The seller only accepts Direct Messages, and to send a DM, I would have to pay $10/year to be a basic member.
I don’t want to buy that knife from that seller that badly!

You might try looking to see if he has also listed it on the Knife Swap subreddit. I don’t think most people list their sales multiple places, but I have seen some people do so.

Try a reverse image search, if there’s an image posted. Or username search. Can you comment on his listing?
I rarely go there anymore, unless directed through a search engine, for reasons like you stated. So I’m not sure how it works. If you’re able to look through that user’s posts (site:forum purdy - if not through the site itself) and comment in a thread he posted in, strike up a conversation about that purdy knife he’s got up for sale. Ask him to email you through the site possibly?

$55 for brand new is a great deal.
$10 extra kinda kills the deal for me, especially considering that I don’t know for sure that I will like the knife, and there’s no guarantee that I can buy the knife after paying the $10. 
Yeah, that’s going to be a tough one… I don’t see any good reference to that model in the knife swap over on Reddit in the last year.
I get the feeling you’re either gonna have to pay more of a premium than you want to or try to find something newer that is still close to this design.
I’ve only had a couple minutes to look, though - I’ll take a another crack at it this evening.

Ah, don’t worry about it.
One of those knives will eventually show up on eBay at a decent price, and that’s when I’ll pounce. 
Or, if the knife never shows up at a decent price, I have tons of other knives to keep me company.
