My cheap rubbish machete.
I just filed it with a flap disc mounted on the angle grinder and went to make my way through some brambles behind the chicken coop.

I love gardening knives! There’s some japanese “style” hori hori knives, with built in rulers for trenching or potting plants, super useful!

This is exactly like that, on the other side, the depth you go in:

Yesterday I had troubles filing it as it has a concave profile:

I have luck bracing one edge with very thick plastic/rubberized clear pressure rated tubing, the gripping the whole flat of the blade with leather work gloves and working the edge along random large round stones. It also might work of you have some glass bottles or pvc pipe that you can wedge under the curve, it makes it easier to determine the angle of the grind. Some people will tell you to just grind the edge like normal and double bevel instead, but that might be a personal preference.

I’ve got this new age one from Nisaku, it’s damn near useless for trenching, and only good for taking out frustration on vines and underbrush…mainly because it uses a straight slab design.

Here it is next to its more practical little cousin, the CRKT Razel:

And some customary glamor shots:

Late, but

Spyderco is very prevalent in this thread. I can’t say much, since I have more spyderco knives than all my other brands combined I think. 13 or 14? I’m going to try to sell one of my Shamans anyway.

I just feel like the spydies shine in hand and in use more than some of my other brands, especially my AD20.5.

That makes sense, it definetely makes it much less of a guesswork!
Thanks, I will try to find some round object that matches the curve, gold advice, here!

Yes Spyderco sell lots of knives to enthusiasts. For several good reasons. They are well made and relatively affordable might be the biggest reason. But they make a huge number of different styles with broad appeal. The fact that one can get those styles in blade steels that are seldom found outside of hugely expensive custom knives doesn’t hurt either.
But I have an idea that Zoulas knows this. He likes to swoop in and make short comments that tend to stir the pot…
