What if we put a xhp50 led in a huge reflector like that of L6 or TN42, then over-drive it like crazy, how much lumens and throw can one get?
Just wondering. Sometimes I don’t need that of a insane throw, but something a bit more balanced.
Interesting question. I myself have thought about a L6 with XHP50. Will the reflector work for that LED as good as for XHP70?
In l6:more throw
In tn42:less throw, and a”+” in hotspot
how much more throw Mrheosuper?
got beam shot comparision?
i dont have, unfortunately
but due to the difference of die size, i can easily guess that
Generally you should get 50-80% more throw since it has about half the DIE-size. I have a de-domed XHP-50 in my Convoy L6. The beam is much more focused, but still very practical with the OP reflector. Because it is a high-cri variant and I don’t overdrive more, it’s not super bright. Maybe 2000 otf lumens.
I would wait for the XHP-50.2 because it more efficient.
I gota get myself one of these!
Did you mod it yourself or got it somewhere?
Any beam shot?
I have a friend, but he doesn’t do contract builds. It pretty easy though. Just need a razor and some very thin spacer rings. You can solder the XHP-50 onto XM-L2 PCBs.

I feel sad when I see general negative advice. The resultant sad feeling puts me in a glum mood.
Well, anyway, back to “what can xhp50 do?”
My crazy thought: I hope more than quad XPL can do. Quad or Triple XHP50 P60 looks interesting.
If I recall correctly it was Eagletac that was the first to come out with a single XHP50 light. Medium size. I guess a larger light could do some more of what that light did.
I think I read that Cree just announced the XHP-50 ver 2 and the dies are closer together. Might work better for flashlights
Edit, yes I did read it right

I have not been that impressed with the XHP50 thus far, it gives a tighter beam then the XHP70 but the XHP70 can put out almost twice the lumens in my experience which pretty much negates the throw advantage for me.
Now the XHP50.2 I have high hopes for. With 4x XP-G3 dies it has the potential to give the current gen XHP70 a run for it’s money in output and a tighter beam with better CRI options too boot.
I keep wanting to get an XHP50.2 to put on the test setup but have not found any domestic suppliers yet.
