I swapped out the 4500K GT-FC40 LED in my Convoy S11 for a 4000K XHP70.3 HI with one of Convoy’s new 6V 8A drivers. It worked nicely except the cavity for the battery is too long (as the driver has a post rather than a spring) so the cell rattles around a fair bit. To fix this I soldered a short spring upside down onto the post on the driver. It looks a little weird but works perfectly now! The original cell arrived with a slightly dented positive contact from the driver post so that shouldn’t happen again.

I think i prefer 4500k or 5000K now that the 519A and those GT-FC leds have materialized. These other hinese LEDs coming in at 7000k and sometimes 8000+ K is just annoying sometimes. Good for output, bad for your eyes.
I have bought, LED updated, and resold a number of SC21 Pro and SC21 Mini. I like that they are a complete package w built in charging.
Im on a mission to spread High CRI around the world… lol
I did a few SP10 Pro, but was disappointed that I cannot find the switch by feel, so I stopped buying more when my last one sold.

I only have that Green SC21 Pro atm, and was getting ready to offer it for adoption. The mods turned out great imo, I would be proud to pass it along.

I do see it. The rainbow was bad on the 70.2 5000K and I swapped it to a 70.3 Hi 4000K. There is a bit of rainbow but due to the white cover and lower CCT it is a lot less visible. Now I’ve modded the flashlight (Convoy M21F) from reflector to a pebbled TIR, the tint shift is basically gone.
Oh yes, you described it well. That corona CCT is mostly in that range, 4000K but it can be more or less than that depends on emitter.
Once you find hotspot and corona to be exact CCT that’s a jackpot

Another TS10 mod, this time it’s a Brass Titanium mix. The stock crooked aux LEDs were bothering me so i removed them and used a 0603 PC amber LED right on the center, now it’s symmetrical, the color matches the brass very nicely and aux on low isn’t useless like it was with direct emission amber LEDs (they were dim to the point of being practically invisible)

It doesn’t produce a usable beam, its very dim and it’s purely flood with some ring artifacts caused by internal reflections on the TIR optics. It looks nice and it’s plenty bright for aux but it’s useless for almost anything else.

I’m curious to know why.
I recently put together an emergency kit for my out of bounds skiing backpack.
The raised button works with gloves on. I also like that it is much easier for me to operate the button without gloves too.
I also like that when Im fondling the light is in my pocket, without gloves on, I can tell by feel, which end of the light has the button.
and
because I recently got a 120P with a flush button, and it tailstands without wobble
The flush button that was on the 120P bulged enough to make the light wobble when tailstanding… that did not make me happy
and, by going back to the raised button on the 120T, I can tell the two lights apart more easily… lol
The tail standing was what I was wondering about. Thanks for the explanation!

I swapped out the XHP50.3 on my SP36 Pro for the 95 CRI 6500K (listed as 5500K) Yinding round die LED. These LEDs are more on the cool side, but color reproduction is incredible, with almost Nichia levels of greatness. Tint starts on the negative side of the curve and goes up as the current increases, peaking out right at BBL on my specimens, which is the opposite of what usually happens.
If these LEDs became available in lower CCTs with the same light quality I’m seeing from these specimens, they would be out of stock quicker than the 3000K SFT40. It doesn’t really makes sense for a manufacturer to make a cool LED this nicely, but they (not sure who) did it anyways, so there’s hope that sooner than later they will be available in 5000K or 4000K at 95 CRI.

fwiw, the CSP in the TS10 also go up in DUV as brightness increases
opposite of 219b and 519a, that go down in DUV as they get brighter
They already have 4000K version, I bought it at Kaidomain. I really like the tint, on low mode it’s a bit yellow but on medium and high it gets more rosy and moves closer to 4500K. I even bought another one to put in another flashlight, for a low cri LED it has a very good tint.

I was anoyed with a that tiny yet visible yellow corona around hotspot on Zebra SC700d so i decided to dice it without removing board (PITA).
Not the best but it got me where i wanted to be.
Now it’s just a hotspot.
I really hope Cree will dump this process in next gen.
