What did you mod today?

I took pictures when I took mine apart:

The hardest part is that the driver is glued in pretty well. I used some debonder on it and it was still hard to get out. I found an empty place on the driver to put a small screwdriver and gave it a couple of taps with a hammer before it came out. The spot was just to the right inside the button hole. Luckily it didn’t damage anything. After that, it was a pretty normal reflow process

I did my first reflow today which was surprisingly easy. I took the nasty green 5000k SST40s out of a TS21 and put in a mix of 2 XP-L Hi 3000k and one FFL351A 3750k. The resulting CCT reads at 3264 with a DUV of -0.0008. I really like the results and it’s taken one of my least favorite lights to being one of my favorites.

Pic compares the mixed triple in the middle to an XPL-Hi 3000k on the left and a FFL351A 3750k on the right.

Congrats on your first reflow! Doing that really opens the door to fixing many lights you would otherwise dislike.

Was it difficult to reassemble and align the USB port? Did you re-bond the driver?

We need thefreeman driver in this flashlight :grimacing:

1 Thank

No, they’re are alignment tabs on two sides of the driver that go in slots in the head. Reinstalling was a piece of cake.

I had used debonder to loosen the glue a little. The glue will rebond itself when it re-cures

This is a cool vise, very interesting.

Yeah, a very old one.

Eagerly waiting on my sft40 emitters arriving so I can do my first Olight emitter swap, is that the stock mcpb it’s on? How do you centre it before placing the optic back or does the optic sort of do that? Did you use a hotplate? I don’t have one so I’m trying to figure out how else to reflow it. Nice beam and work any advice is greatly appreciated
