My solarforce L2P p60 lens fogs up right in the center after about a minute on high.
the entire lens never fogs up, just about 1/2 inch in diameter straight smack in the middle where the led is.
will replacing the lens fix the issue?
I had that happen when I accidentally got a bit of moisture into my SolarForce p60. Have you tried opening it up and airing it out for a couple of minutes? Be careful of getting dust on the lens or reflector if you do so.
The last time I saw smoke in flashlight, was due to poor mounting of LED which heat up on power up and melted the insulation gasket.
Moisture inside the light, try removing the battery and filling the battery compartment with rice and leave it out in the sun, the rice should absorb all the moisture
Might also look into getting some silicon grease to grease up the threads/gaskets
Might wanna check that you o-rings are still in good condition as well.
If its fog then you have some moisture inside, if its smoke you have a bigger problem
There’s a drop of water somewhere inside the head. Turning it on heats up the water, becomes vapour, condenses on the cool lens. Disassemble and allow to dry in the sun for a bit.
My glasses do it sometimes.
There might be (at least) two causes.
Moisture inside the flashlight.
Volatile chemcials boiling of from plastics.
For a hi-powered flashlight it might be a good idea to do a "burn-in". Remove the lens and turn the flashlight on at full to let it heat up and boil away plastic softeners, tin flux, surplus flame retardants and grease on hot components. Let it run until the temperature is stable. If you don't remove the lens you may find that the lens is permanently fogged up from condensate gunk. Do this under a kitchen fan, or outdoors, don't breathe in the fumes...
Moisture will dry out as well.
alot of great ideas. ill try them all. but its been doing this for about a month already. shouldnt the water have dried up by now?
oh, how do i remove the lens?
im trying to unscrew the head bezel but it wont budge. is this the right way?
No need to remove the lens. Just unscrew the tailcap and the entire head, air it out, then reassemble and enjoy. That should do it if everything is in good shape. If the issue persists, it's more than just a bit of trapped moisture.
Edit: The bezel is usually on tight but should come out if you're able to grip it and turn. I read somewhere that it helps to grip the parts with denim. Just use your imagination. Also, you may wish to wipe down the lens with a soft cloth while you have the head out.
the inside of a flashlight is a closed system, the water has nowhere to go, it can’t escape into the atmosphere whihc is why you need to take it completely apart to get it dried out
