What flashlight is best for bushcraft?

300 meters is totally sufficient, so it turns out I’m more interested in nice wide angle.

M21E looks great! Is it not a bit bulky for EDC, though?

There is that much difference in thermal linear vs Buck???

IF22A. Nice tight beam, plenty of battery oomf, still compact.

Prefer reflectors to TIRs? Ultrafire T6. No frills UI, just on/off rear switch and L/M/H side switch. Nice come-with holster, too. Super tight hotspot, like a CatMini.

Let me be the devil’s advocate. I’ll try and boil it down.

Size : as close to 18650 tube light but with the capacity of 21700

Throw : of a single emitter but with the efficiency of multi emitter

UI : electronic or clicky, no preference but want something “nice”…?? Only requirements is easy access turbo, must have moon mode and some kind of special feature as a bonus

Kelvin and CRI : no preference

Durability : adds bulk and imo clicky is more durable

My interpretation of that is a 21700 tube light with clicky UI (bistro..?), single mid sized emitter with dome on (xml2..?), and some kind of auxiliary light as a bonus.

Are we getting close?

For some people, yes, it is a bit bulky.
For me, no, it’s not.
Convoy offers a number of hosts that are larger (or smaller) than the M21E, so choose the right one for you. :+1:

Is convoy s21g worth considering?

For urban EDC, yes.
For outdoors I recommend something sturdier with more throw like the S16.

Not the exact models discussed above but maybe this will help compare…

Another vote for Acebeam, the E75 is a good throw/flood mix.

I like s16, seems sufficient

E75 with 4* CREE Xp-LR leds 6500K, 4000 lms turbo or some different specs?

I found out nichia 519A is the most recommended variant due to high 90 CRI, would you agree?

2 Thanks

For the E75? Definitely. I’ve had the Nichia version and the cool white side by side, there’s not a lot of difference in the overall brightness between the two but the light from the Nichia is far nicer.

Maybe the Wurkkos HD20 is to be considered?
21750 battery, flow and spot, reverse charging, SHOULD be sturdy (but it is a very budget light), should be water resistant to a point, L light that comes with a headband.

I don’t do bushcraft, I can’t tell. It looks at least like a decent budget option.

Note: Unconfortable when used as a headlight. But maybe doing bushcraft confort is not the main concern.

@Chris100575 said it right. The higher CRI version is ideal for outdoors, it’ll pick out greens and browns much better than the cool white 6500K.

I think you’re confusing cri and colour temperature…?

I don’t think he is.

Can you not get high cri 6500k…?

CRI, not so much, more CT.

Ages ago, I showed my gf the difference with ancient XM-L lights, shining on woodgrain. 6500K was a sickly grayish color, but 2700K made those browns pop.

Not in an Acebeam E75. You can get the E75 with either 5000K Nichia 519a (high CRI) emitters, or 6500K (low CRI) un-named ones.
