What happened to MTN Electronics?

I am just curious if anyone knows what the deal is here. Not so long ago, mtn was my source for quality drivers and leds that I could trust as authentic. Over the passed few years, their offerings have obviously not kept up with the times (to say it very politely). I have only had positive experiences with Richard in the past, but I have emailed the same inquiry to the site about a month ago with no response whatsoever.
I don’t know if he just decided to retire or something else happened, I just want to know if I should keep hoping that the site will one day update with the times, or if I should just let it go and roll the dice with AliExpress and Kaidomain.

I emailed him about 6 months ago with a question about a driver. Never heard back from him.

So it doesn’t sound good ,I would just go elsewhere.

Not sure what his plans are with Mountain Electronics — I think he started this business while in college/law school ---- I do know he’s heavily involved in his family’s CBD Oil business

I know years ago I had to use an alternate email account-- for some reason my regular account wouldn’t work

Triple parts. They are the only remaining source for spacers since the Russian guy can’t produce more right now. Also triple MCPCBs and you might as well buy Carclo optics since you are there for the spacer and MCPCB anyway. If you are building a Convoy Triple you need MTN. Still need to get modern emitters from a different source though. Also the only place to get the Dr jones H17Fx driver, but it’s usage is really limited to triples or a handful of single emitters that can be FET driven.

Otherwise the Convoy related stuff is better off purchased straight from Convoy, better emitters and drivers these days.

Agreed!!!

And the MTN-17DDm with Bistro is still one of my favorite drivers. I just got 2 more last week along with some spacers, triple MCPCBs, and optics.

But, I also think I’m getting close to my triple limit, maybe even flashlights limit. So if they closed up shop, it’s been a great run! But I’ve thought that many times in the past.

Ever try making an S2+ triple without the spacer method? It requires a little machining but nothing a rotary tool can’t handle. You end up being able to use an 18500 (or 14500, or aa with the T3 driver) with an 18350 tube.

I’ve made spacers for my S2+ triple and S21A quad with just some 1/8" copper, a hand drill and belt sander.

Pic of S2+ spacer soldered to pill.

I didn’t know that was an option. Do you have a link or some pics?

Not when you have these

What’s that? A custom pill that’s extended out to be triple-friendly?

Yep — Custom made by HOOP – He also had a batch of stock copper pills that were just as awesome

Sorry, I’m not having any luck finding a link to where I first saw it. I’ll try to get some pics tomorrow and I’ll notify you.

It’s fairly easy to modify the pill of an S2+ to make it suitable for a triple without a spacer.

  1. Remove threads from around the top edge of the pill so that the pill can screw further into the head. No need for any fancy machine tools. A hand file is all you need.

  2. If you want to use a larger cell in a smaller light it may also be necessary to shorten the pill so there is less empty space between the driver and star. This can be done with a hacksaw and some filing on the bottom of the pill. It may also be helpful to use a dremel for this part.

Is the battery pretty loose then with that extra length?

I guess it depends on the spring(s) that are used. Have you needed to use longer and/or thicker springs?
