Lambda has inspired some of my direct drive builds. The SST90 is actually a little less powerful than the PT54 and is no match for the PT120/121 series.
This flashlight was built for weapon mount, long range use. It features solid copper heat sink, Ebay seller DTR-LPF PT54 red led, Optolife 50mm Aspheric lens, Direct Drive 4/3AF (18650 size) NiMH batteries, 18GA Teflon wire and a MF $13 TR-1200 HOST W/Ebay extension. Wire tape switch (too much resistance) will have to be reworked probably MOSFET switched. Using standard switch or copper penny . Running 3 cells was able to pull 12A. A bit high but this a short run time light. All copper parts …
This was with a 8A build.
Enclosed are a couple of pics. One is my feeder lights and the other is feeder light with ASPT54 Beam shot. My FL are made of 2 3up XRE red stars and are solar powered and run max setting total 6leds @ 700ma rated total 240 lumen. My Aspheric PT54 red 700 lumen maglite is listed on this forum else where. These shots were @ 110 yds. Estimate beam width 30ft.

And PT120 green build.
Here are a Pics of my latest builds. The Fannyfire STL-V6 (for comparison), Red PT54 @ 8A+ and Green PT120 @ 25A est. Both PTs are aspherical builds and have my own machined heat sinks PT54 copper/aluminum and PT120 solid copper . The PT120 is FET switched. Both are direct drive 10000ma Tenergy D cell flashlights. Beam shot is XM-L, red PT54 and Green PT120. The green gets WARM after about a minute. Trust me the beam shot inside doesn't show the true power of these lights. Other info:
