What is the smallest caliber you trust to protect yourself?

Really, the only caliber I would trust my life with is the 45acp 1911 and that has been my only carry. However, I have been known to carry this in my boot. IMO, it packs more than a standard 38.spec.

This was back up, that is all. With a two hand hold, I could hit in the black at 25 yds. NRA 25 yd timed/rapid target.

Hi Standard 22 mag derringer..

.22mag out of that short bbl is little better than a .22lr. It may bark and snort more but most of the powder is not getting burnt. Even a .22lr won’t burn all the powder out of a short bbl. Thats why .38 snubbies are still popular. Why deal with all the extra kick, flash and noise from a . 357 mag when you are only getting a marginal increase in velocity over a milder .38spl?

.38 Spcl +P as a bare minimum...

http://www.snubnose.info/docs/38-snub_vs_357-snub.htm

Load, Ammunition Average Velocity (ft/sec), Kinetic Energy (.5*m*v^2)

  • Federal .38 Special 129-grain Hydrashok +P: 846 ft/sec = 46.16x10^6
  • Winchester .38 Special 158-grain LSWCHP +P: 858 ft/sec = 58.16x10^6
  • Remington .357 Magnum 125-grain SJHP (Full-house load): 1243 ft/sec = 96.57x10^6
  • Handload: Rucker 158-grain CSWC: 1100 ft/sec = 95.60x10^6

12 guage = just point in their general direction and shoot!

both barrels

In my best accent.......I will fart in their "GENERAL" direction and then I will taunt them a second time. Then I will "runaway!"

Keith

You sound like you have great wife. And you handle that thread REAL well.

Keith

Can"t wait for the new season. MY wife won"t even look at it.

Keith

My wife won"t go "hiking" with me anymore.

Keith

I just the bad ass in cause it went good with baking cookies.

Keith

Ok! This too made me burst in laughter, alone in front of my PC. This is turning out to be quite an entertaining thread!

Something about it always cracks me up even without a funny saying on it.

I do indeed have a great wife, Keith. Problem is, she knows it! :glasses: She actually has something for all of you that I'll be posting up in it's own thread shortly. It's kinda an olive branch offer to Burro, but I think everyone will enjoy it.

As far as how handled myself in that thread, I'm not sure I got 10s across the board, I'm afraid. I got my point across, sure, but I think in the process I made Burro feel like it was a personal attack. I sure hope that that wasn't the case, but I did get that impression. The thing is, due to my specific education, I always endeavor to be a calm debater. I know that once emotion, hyperbole, and personal attacks enter into the discussion that the other side has already won, regardless of facts or logic. But, sometimes, especially when the stakes are, either irrelevant or minor, my personality breaks through and I interject humor (and by humor, I mean things that I find funny) into it and it usually causes more trouble than it solves. But my intent when I do that is to lighten the mood so that it doesn't degrade into something ugly. Just another example of the Law of Unintended Consequences, I suppose.

And speaking to Burro, I want to publicly say that there are no hard feelings on my end and I hope you feel the same way. If, in the end, we see the world differently, that's OK. And putting aside the humor, the discussion about the choices women make was interesting to me.

I don't know for sure if Burro is what I'd call a progressive, but the dichotomy between how the left and right define "pro-choice" truly intrigues me. One side is pro choice unless you decide to make a choice they don't agree with and the other believes in all the choices.

The classic example, well, at least the one that doesn't involve just females, is the people who would otherwise claim to be pro-choice don't think you should be allowed to choose to own a firearm.

And since I ended this otherwise off topic post with "gun" talk, I don't have to apologize to the OP for derailing the thread. :glasses:

My education born of experience is some people are enthusiastic at debate of other peoples' business until anyone else points out where they are wrong . . calmly or not . .

. . which generally defines progressives (not specifically because I don't know anybody who enthusiastically likes being wrong).
