Faves are Koegel and Kowalski hot dogs. Last trip to Michigan I brought back 7 packages of Koegel’s in the freezer.
Worst is Bar S, no doubt.

Agree
I’m making a big assumption that every time I eat a dog it’s a nutritional nightmare. So I eat them fairly rarely and happily . I probably like a mett most of all , them maybe a sweet Italian with lots of grilled peppers and onions . Shout out to 2 skyline cheese coney’s and a 3-way .
Little place we found in Florida had dogs anyway you could want … third generation and lots of history 80+ yrs of dogs only . Had way too many and want another dog w/ kraut+++
. Stop by the next year and …. Closed. Out of Business! So sad… missed it by that much
They are tasty.
In Central/Western NY, the big players are Hofmann’s, Zweigels, and Sahlens. I grew up in Syracuse, and Hoffman’s natural casing was, and still is King. They’re my favorite. Boiled til split, then quick fried in a skillet with peanut oil. Condiment options are endless, but I prefer straight up with brown mustard and diced Vidalia onions on a fresh slab of french bread, or hot (meat) sauce and onion on a Long Island style bun. Good stuff.
I just looked up Hoffman’s, looks good. Will probably order some as never saw them in NYC.
Don’t really have a favourite, I’ll get whatever’s convenient and a good deal. Least favourite is any with mustard or coleslaw on it - completely ruined.
I agree with you on coleslaw…
But I do like just plain yellow mustard.
That’s all I put on my hot dogs.
I don’t really know my favorite, I love hot dogs but don’t really buy them to cook at home. I usually grab one on the go. Lots of little local burger joints have some great dogs around here. Least favorite, anything sold next to bologna in a super market.
A decent mustard and jalapenos are my go to toppings.
I like jalapenos, too.
That reminds me… I have jalapeno-based hot sauce that I put on a bunch of food, but I don’t have any sliced jalapenos.
The next time I cook hot dogs, I’ll put yellow mustard along with the jalapeno-based hot sauce on them.
The answer was right in front of me the whole time!
Yep, hot dogs should be eaten sparingly! Even natural ones have lots of fat, sodium, and other ‘trimmings’ that go into them, but I think we’ve moved away from snouts, hooves, lips, and entrails in our processed meats though.
Of course because it tastes good does not mean its good for you.
I think the main idea of a hot dog is easy to cook and easy to eat. Lastly cheap. This is why they are sold on street corners and ball parks.
Health benefits were never part of the master plan.
I get my most favorite hot dog at “Kuhnstwerk” in Hannover/Germany:
Translation:
“REAL GUYS”
100% beef sausage (from the butcher around the corner)
in buttered brioche bun /
Spreewald-cucumber-relish / roasted onions /
ketchup / bacon jam / ← this last one is the secret!
deep fried parsley 9,90€
Every other hot dog i tried was not able to top that!
You can even buy their bacon jam in glasses - absolutely great tasting!
Edit: Insert screenshot of the hot dog.
Anyone wants to make their own bacon-jam, czech out AB.
He’s big on the grillin’, and I gain about 10lb just watching his vids.
AB is the best.
Holy sh…! Instantly bookmarked and will try to make myself.
Big thanks for the tip! Unfortunately bacon jam is rarely known in Germany.
That guy is the grill master. No one comes close.
Favorite is probably Hebrew National beef, closely followed by Nathan’s beef. Least favorite is any hot dog made with turkey.
If you can’t get that “hickory balsamic”, you can use whatever vinegar you got and probably get “liquid smoke” or whatever it might be called.
Most important to me is how a hot dog is cooked. It has to have some char on it, preferably from an open flame.
