What is your favorite and least favorite hot dog

This weekend is a huge weekend for eating hot dogs.

Making me hungry, man. I love all of those foods. Cabot cheese is a must-have around here. The extra sharp, seriously sharp and habanero are the three I try to keep around.
And yeah, Vidalia onions or regular sweet yellow onion, and I like red onions too.

Now you are talking.

Turns out in NY Walmart has Hoffman so I bought a few packs. Will report back when I make them.

Had a Hebrew National Jumbo from the grill over the labor day weekend. I thought the spices were just right. Hot dogs are getting skinnier and skinnier so jumbo seemed like the regular size.

1 Thank

Life is to short to be eating hotdogs

Well, its a form of junk food/fun food. Same category as pizza and hamburgers.

In moderation like anything else. Myself I have a hotdog a couple times a year, Pizza well that’s a couple times month. Hamburgers maybe every couple months. I eat a lot of chicken lately.

My favorite ā€œhot dogsā€ are beef brats. I throw them on the smoker for about two hours, then put them on an ā€œeverything bagelā€ seasoned hot dog bun with mustard and jalapeno relish. Its strikingly good.

Least favorite are any of the generic pink hot dogs of questionable composition.

I mean, the climate is effed, wealth gap widens day by day and the earth is being overtaken by fash so I guess that checks out.

2 Thanks

Nice!
Do you remember which Dirty Harry movie that’s from?
EDIT:
Nevermind…
It’s from Sudden Impact (1983), which I don’t think I ever saw.

Yeah, it was okay. Introduced the .44 automag, and Meathead The Dog.

ā€œHey, is that your dog?ā€
ā€œYeah, you want him?ā€

Strangely ironic, as when Clint found his friend in the room with his throat cut, he’s obviously sad, angry, and shaken, but when Meathead comes out from hiding with a pretty bad limp, that’s when Clint gets that eye-twitch and goes all John Wick on the badguys.

Best: Hebrew,Nathan’s,sabrett

Worst: Oscar , ballpark

I tried a new hot dog today.
It’s the Parkview Cheddar Jalapeno Sausage from Aldi.

It’s currently 15% cheaper than the Johnsonville Jalapeno Cheddar that I usually get from Walmart.
The jury is still out on this one.
The Johnsonville hot dog tastes at least a tiny bit better than the Parkview hot dog.
I might stick with the Parkview because it’s cheaper, though. :money_mouth_face:

I generally like Johnsonville sausages. Their Brats and Sweet Itallian sausages are go to stuff for me…
But none of them are Hot Dogs…
But yeah, I did mention Brats much earlier… so mea culpa.

Hmm…
ā€œSausage and hot dogs are similar, but they have subtle and distinct differences. Both are encased meats. But sausage refers to a broader category of seasoned ground meat in various casings. Hot dogs are a specific type of fully cooked and cured sausages.ā€
Even after reading different definitions online, including the quote above, I can’t really tell the difference between a hot dog and a sausage. :+1:

I know hot dogs are not exactly healthy but for some reason I feel that sausage is less healthy. Possibly due to all the fat you see when you slice one in half.

Probably equally bad for you.

For those interested, Maine has a special type of frankfurters called ā€˜red snappers’ i forget who makes them (there’s been a couple companies), but they’re only sold locally in Maine or mail order. My family is from Maine and my grandma brought some back recently. They’re succinctly different than other dogs and almost an acquired taste. Beef/pork lamb casing an heavy on cardamom, allspice and nutmeg. If you wa t to try some, mail order unless you’re on the east coast. Enjoy them on a potato split top hoagie with mustard.

Maine as in the state?
