What kind of wood is this?

Hello.

I´ve received some wood I ordered before AND my father gave me some (Mahagony, Teak, Oak and Nut).
There´s one wood I just cannot identify. I have two orders and checked every wood and could identify them all BUT this one.
I´m not sure, but this one must be frm my father and not from an order.

Does anyone know what kind of wood this could be?
It´s not nut, right? I´d say it´s too dark and figure for nut, but I´m not sure. The third from top (“Nuss”) is nut. I know there´s french nut and american. Might the last onbe be just another kind of nut?

I dont know but if I may ask what do you do with your different types of wood?

You could make a post over at bladeforums in the knifemaker section.

Wood turning as a hobby : )

edit: Gnargh. I didn´t want to register to another forum just for one question : /
I bet someone will know it here. If not, it´s ok.

A darker walnut maybe? Do you know where it is from?

Nope, I don´t.

Yeah, I also think it´s nut but I´ve never seen such a dark one before.

Huh?

I will make it cylindrical to get a better idea of it.

After looking at a few samples on my favourite wood ID site I reckon it could be Bocote HobbitHouse Wood ID site.

Louro preto ?

My work is joinery and I’d reckon on a darker walnut as Ford Prefect says.
Sometimes the only way to tell for sure is to get it analysed there are so many timbers that look similar to each other…

The walnut in the mountains here has a very dark brownish color. It gives off a unmistakable odor of walnuts if freshly sawed.
You might see if it smells like walnut.

Maybe a couple swipes with the hand plane will paint a better picture

It was a dark wood
Perhaps pungent with the smell of nut
Teasing the senses
Grained as the trail of the amoeba
Resting
And moving on
It’s upper regions washed
With a cascading tidal symmetry
It’s origins cloaked in familial beneficence
My heartwood pine to know
The genus florae
But alas, another day awaits

I was gonna say, smell it! Looks like a different grain structure of the Zircote to me. The Walnut I’ve worked has been a richer, more reddish brown. If you have some Bocote, cut a small bit of that and Zircote and see which it smells like, if either. I always go by the smell more than the look because the grain pattern/tightness/even color can vary quite a bit from tree to tree.

Gotta get your hands dirty to really tell.

Okay, I'll bite.

What don't you like about big image signatures?

Raccoon, thanks, gives me a better look at that second image on top from the left…are those S&W .45ACPs? Love the big bore revolvers, whatever they are. Anything more than that and she of course couldn’t handle em. Hard to do anyway, I’ve shot double Ruger SP101’s with 2 1/4” barrels and hot .357Mag rounds and it’s pretty dang tough to control!!

Nope. My signature hasn't changed since Monday, November 19th, 2012.

In their infinite wisdom, Umbrella gave Alice some superpowers. That could never backfire on them, right?

Personally, one gun at a time is more than enough...

but over-the-top action flicks are a different story. ;)
