I got the TS12 yesterday and quite like how it feels etc. but the LED… the LED was not well centered, the corona looked awful.
So I changed it to a 519A 5700K - but the reflector doesn’t work too well with that LED, I get a yellowish center.
I have some FFL351A here that I could put in, but first I want to ask, which LED (preferrably buyable from Simon / Convoy) would be fit for this reflector and de-throwify the light a little bit since I don’t like throwers too much.
I have a bunch of old-ish LEDs here, so just post your suggestion!
The TS12 reflector is rather poorly formed, one can see that in the product photos that different parts of the reflector have different focal points. The way to make a good beam out of it (which coincides with what you want) is to use as floody an emitter as possible. Unfortunately, most floody emitters are also domed, which tend to produce a yellow/green hotspot in reflectors.
I think the FFL351A is a worth a shot for the tint uniformity, even though it’s less throwy than ideal. Could also give dedomed 519A or sliced LH351D a try. Another idea is to use heavy diffusion film to smooth away artifacts.
If you can somehow upgrade to 5050 footprint and are ok with low CRI, I’ve heard great things about the tint of the LHP351 from Convoy.
Here you can also see how much play the gasket has around the LED…
Hmmm… just put a 16mm 5050 board over the current MCPCB, with a little bit of grinding I could make it fit…
The reflector hole is a ted too tight for a 5050 LED, but that’s a prroblem that can be resolved.
I dunno if I have time for that today since I have to prepare for a vacation next week, though.
I had to ream the reflector hole a bit, before, it damaged the LED and the PCB - and I did fry the driver, probably the mosfet since it still works, but just in like 1-2% brightness.
If plugged into USB, I get a lot more, maybe 70% brightness?
So a beamshot onto the ceiling, distance ~1,5m from the light, diameter of the hotspot ~0,5m
