What Magnifier(s) Do You Use? Lighted?

I sometimes use one of those “helping hands” type of magnifiers, 4X I believe. I also have a pair of clip on 3X magnifiers.

I need glasses to read so the clip on 3X fit on my glasses. I also use a small old Black Diamond headlight with variable (ramping) output.

I’m just wondering what others use and would recommend.

I use cheap +3 reading glasses and when that is not enough I have a great stereo microscope (Olympus SZ with zoom function, early seventies model).

It has been a few years since I was last able to do solder work without some form of magnification. :frowning:

ott light magnifier with about 80 ebay 5mm hi cri on a strip perf board.
6 p lipo from a macbook pro battery.
and a tp4056.

Me too. I’m shopping for something to do fine pitch SMD work.

I’ve been using 2x reading glasses over my regular glasses, but that really isn’t good.

I’ve been using this from Harbor Freight: Jumbo Helping Hands with LED Lights. Maybe not the highest quality, but the 2 LEDs help light stuff up and the 6x magnifier insert is nice to zoom in on things. Plus it has a metal base so it’s pretty stable. Up until last summer I’ve never had one of these helping hands, but I can’t imagine working on drivers, lighted switches, watches, etc. without one now.

This is what I got, love it. May have mentioned I had a 6x, sorry, but its 6in diameter Glass.
It is just over a year old and I am happy with it. Was $80 when I got it, looks like it went up a little since then.
Also have multiple hand held lighted magnifying glass.

6 Inch Glass lens. SMD LED on 4 boards surrounding the lens. 48 total. Not the advertised 64 LED. But it’s bright and white, not cold blue at all. The 6in lens has about the center 3 inches without distortion. 2.25X magnification & about 6-8in distance of focus from lens. Springs, arms and overall quality is good. Does not feel like it will break when maneuvered about and it supports the head fine.

OMMAG-5DL 64 LED Industrial Magnifier Lamp

I use one of these https://www.harborfreight.com/magnifier-head-strap-with-lights-38896.html

I removed both lights (Worthless junk) and added a T10 AA light on the top

Ha! Awesome…

Looks like a little toilet, lid and everything!

I took the lid off so I don’t get in trouble for leaving it up. Useless anyway.

Keeps dust off.

If it weren’t so spendy, I’d be tempted to get it, just because of its toiletness.

I posted the photo you see because I didn’t want to show my year old stained magnifier!
At the time I did research pretty hard, crazy what Real industrial or lab type magnifiers are selling for. Or what real junk is out there for $50ish.
I haven’t broke it yet.

That one looks like a nice one receive as a Christmas present. :+1:

I miss Harbor Freight. One of things we gave up when we moved to the UK.

I found this on GB:

The HF one looks better (yikes)

I use the Eschenbach MaxDetail Magnifier, very useful once your eyes get used them. Perfect for reflowing, assembling drivers.
