What wildlife did you spot tonight?

Wile E. Coyote…

Wildlife? Does my wife count?

These are wild midland painted turtles. The little guy is about a month old and the size of a quarter. The silver ring at the bottom right is a screw eye with a .75 inch O.D. We had 10 nests with a total of 88 babies hatch this year. Usually once they make it to the water in the half acre pond they are not seen again for a year or more. Would have loved to see how he got up there.

A few nights ago, a cricket got into my room.
A day later, it was crawling on the wall, so I tried to kill it with my shoe (on my hand.)
I didn’t know for sure that I killed it because I couldn’t find the body in my cluttered room, but since it hasn’t made any noise since I attacked it, I think I got it.
What’s going to be annoying is when the red ants (that like to bite people) find the cricket and invade my room to devour the body. :cricket:

I’ve seen dozens and dozens of different types of wildlife over the years.

On October 29th I was out for a hike, it was a beautiful clear night with all the stars out.

It would have been my friend’s 57th birthday. I pointed my wt90 up to the sky I said God bless you Jim, rest in peace. Almost immediately after that a Bald Eagle flew right through the path of my beam! He was 60 to 70 ft up in the air. I followed it until it flew over the tree line and across the river.

It was a spiritual experience. Maybe a message from Jim I don’t know. It seemed surreal. That was the most meaningful sighting of an animal I’ve ever seen.

I am not native american. They believe in shape-shifting. I certainly wouldn’t rule that out. There are spiritual forces out there that we are not aware of.

Yes, but at night with your favorite light shone on your subject :grimacing::rofl:

Great story!

I’ve been at a lake at night with schools of fish and lots of snakes swimming along the edge. Wish I would have had a camera!
Have you been at the pond at night with a light and seen any critters?

That is exactly how I ended up here looking for better flashlights to use walking around the pond every night. There are always plenty of little fish. Occasional some of the grass carp (48+ inches) or koi (30 inches) will be near the edge which makes them look huge by being close to them. Lots of frogs and newts. All kinds of amazing looking insects. Snapping turtles show up at the beginning of July so I carry a net in one hand and the flashlight in the other. Sometimes raccoons and muskrats are swimming across the pond. It seems like there is always something different.

another coyote…

That’s pretty cool. Have you captured pics of bobcats?

no.
however, yesterday a picture was posted on Next Door
of a bobcat killed by a car which was 1 1/2 miles from here.

¿Sabes qué especie de rana es esa?
¡Con el fondo marrón, la temperatura de la luz más fría marca la diferencia!

They’re around and many people don’t even have a clue they are there. Not you. Just what I’ve read about them in human communities.
I saw a video on NextDoor of two bobcats just enjoying the view from a porch.

Banded bullfrog, they are common in southern China and Southeast Asia. The white balance of the photo is 4500K.
btw, forget my username and bio, I just don’t speak English well, but I don’t speak Spanish at all. :joy:

Did you see this story about the guy who went hand to hand with a mountain lion?

Lol

just about as entertaining as the Tyson/Paul “fight”…

More so, because the outcome is less predictable
