What’s that bit set? I tried Google but looks like there are a few in that form factor, I assume they all have bits on the top and a holder/extension on the bottom? Shame as I’m looking for a good compact bit holder.
I’ll be reorganising my kit in the coming months; without a dedicated workstation, my current kit has got to the point where it’s a bit unweildy and it’ll take me too long to get it all out then put away for a simple LED swap etc.
Currently consists of soldering iron, solder and flux, helping hand thing, thermal paste, grease, tweezers, strap wrenches, vice, pliers, plus bunch of parts…
Wiha is considered the number one screw driver and bit maker. Very expensive.
The prices don’t seem as much as PBSwiss and are no more expensive than Wera, the Wiha stuff I’ve got seems good quality though. I just want a decent bit storage box that holds a good number of bits in a compact shape, and is easy to get the bits out.
Oh I forgot to add tealight type candles to my flashlight kit, I find reflows much easier on a candle than on the stove. (Plus, I know it’s trace amounts, but I don’t like the idea of lead where I cook my food).
It’s Wiha 79247. It has the extension and the holder isn’t as compact as it could be. 60% of the space could be removed. I bought two sets for knife maintenance but they’re handy for some flashlights like the Acebeam E75, Cyansky HS6R etc.
I tried removing the face plate (bezel) from a Cyansky HS6R to inspect the driver for a missing or damaged component. A bit from a cheap precision set that I had ended up stripping itself. I ended up getting a Wera 5134000001 set and use a driver from that to remove the screws (some had glue).
In hindsight, the Wera 5134000001 is overkill for my needs. A Wiha 79247 set and a Wera 416R or 813R bit driver are more than enough.
My tool collection is uh, growing a bit like my flashlight collection…
The green box that comes with the Wiha 79247 is definitely easy to slide open, and the bits pull out relatively easily. It has a latch that clicks into place when you close it and it pulls open.
My go-to precision bits are the Xiaomi mija Wiha bits, they’re in a lovely aluminium case with magnetic closure.
Larger driver bits are mix of makes, most are currently in those awful injection moulded friction fit 1/4in bit holder strips which are a pain to take bits out of.
The ifixit bit sets look pretty good, not very compact though…
