As someone who got his first NovaTac in Jan 2008 (LINK), the premise of a programmable UI pushed all of my buttons. The NovaTac 120P programmable UI is a real pain to use. Difficult to memorize, beyond a few basic commands. Worst of all is the scrolling timed menu. You make one mistake and you’ve got to “wait it out” and go through the whole process again. Of course, once you have the light configured, it’s great. But there is optional functionality that requires stepping into that big UI to enable/disable it. LiteFlux LF2XT, LF3XT and LF5XT were interesting programmable models. Kind of like a “NovaTac cousin.” I was hopeful a better programmable UI would come out… but nothing. Years went by and nothing. Or, you have a hacker who makes one that’s pretty cool, but it’s locked in just one particular flashlight.
When Toykeeper started her initial UI’s with Bistro and Biscotti, I was really psyched. But the available hosts… were not my thing. Then the FW3A project came, with the Anduril UI. BINGO! Seriously impressive flashlight at a decent price, run by the far more intuitive Anduril UI. I’ve since bought an LT1, another FW3A, an FWAA, and a couple of Fireflies PL47mu’s.
Now I’ve been riveted on the dual-channel topic, seeing the new offerings from Emisar and the seriously impressive capability of running completely different emitters paired up and independently controlled.
Where do we go from here? I’m just curious of what may be on the horizon.
Also, I’m thinking that since LCD interfaces have been developed and deployed by a few brands (like Nitecore), perhaps at some point there might be a version of Anduril that will work with an LCD display. Ultimately… voice control! :person_facepalming: (I know, perhaps too much).
The innovations of tomorrow are being dreamed today… so would be great if any “intel” could be dropped here.
