Which are innovative torches brands?

In another topic people are wondering if interest in torches is waning due to lack of innovation. My question: which brand do you consider innovative, interesting and why?

My answer: Nitecore is innovative in terms of introductions, (Tini, sr9, etc.) concepts, design and production techniques. They’re also innovative in other (vaping) markets.

Convoy is solid but not innovative, I like the brand but it’s not interesting in terms of innovation. Same goes for Manker.

Reylight is a lovely custom brand and reasonably innovative, but could innovate more or so I think.

This is my opinion, but I’m curious about yours.

Overall, I think Nitecore may be the ?most innovative. But intl-outdoor.com/Noctigon/Emisar (Hank) is probably even more innovative.

George

why?

It really depends on how you define innovation. What I personally considered awesome and innovative is Nitecore’s new headlamp, where the battery pack is a power bank as well; meaning the light is connected via USB cable.
Nevertheless, generally speaking I see very little innovation in the flashlight world.

Overall my vote will definitely go to intl-outdoor.com/Noctigon/Emisar (Hank) as the most innovative.

Because/some reasons:

  • UI designs
  • Form factors
  • High Performance designs
  • Anodisation colour options
  • LED emitter options
  • Tint options
  • etc, etc

George

I vote for olight. Design, ui, charging options. Big product range flood, high output, throw, edc.

I find the BLF brand to be quite innovative.

I think Manker (or Mateminco as a whole, including Astrolux models and Utorch) is definitely innovative.

Sure but only in electronics (drivers) with more and more modes. I don’t agree as these drivers are put into tubes that are same as all the other ones

Why? Form factor is ok, build quality is … well, look at my LAD thread. No new production techniques, no new concepts. But please tell me why you think it is.

Hmm… I wouldn’t call a FET DD driver innovative…

I asked for brand, not for features, sorry

I’m not disagreeing with you per se, but how many forms can a flashlight take and still leave room for new innovation? At some point the maker is only making it brighter/last longer/have more functions/etc. The form (tube, can, or whatever) will remain (mostly) unchanged.

How are we defining innovation?

I would love to see a power bank port/function built into one of the next BLF customs. Why not? Why not build the carriers for the GT (or the next one) with a built in usb port for charging? Stuff like that I think would be neat. Innovative? I dunno.

They were the first to make a wireless charging (induction) flashlight iirc.
They’re also designing very unique and new features such as power button LED blinking as a voltage meter, and certain flashlights also have OLED screens with temperature displays, and stuff like that which other manufacturers don’t have the R&D to do.

Didn’t they come up with the 18350 quad TIR dragster light with copper ‘engine’ concept?
And how about the 1x 26650 XHP35 light (a.k.a. Utorch UT-02)?
The AAA angle light is a sweet thing too, and innovatively built (i did a tear down some time ago)

I have to agree on Nitecore too.
Their USB rechargeable keychain lights are trend setting, i much like the Concept 1 too.
Unfortunately their typical 2x 18650 lights are too expensive i.m.o.
