Which Emitter for Nitefighter BT40s Mod?

Hi Guys,

I’ve been using a Nitefighter BT40s for a few night bike rides now. I’m very happy with the construction and quality of the host, but the beam has been leaving me a bit disappointed. (or maybe I just have a problem leaving lights alone).

The light has (4) Neutral white XP-G2 emitters which provide a fairly floody beam. What I’m looking for is to get a beam with a bit more throw. I prefer warm white tints for biking at night, I could live with neutral, but certainly don’t want CW. Also I’m hoping to get this done on the cheap. I’m hoping I can find some emitters for $3-$2 an emitter if possible.

I’m wondering if an XP-E2 would give me what I’m looking for. I’m not sure how these would perform under a carclo type 4-up tir optic. Fasttech has some Q5-3D bin available for cheap: https://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10017520/3740404-cree-xp-e2-q5-3d-114lm-5000k-led-emitter.

What emitters would you recommend?

Dedomed XP-G2s may be your best option for what you want. With the drive current unchanged, these would give you nearly the same output, but with a narrower beam and significantly more throw. You could even just try dedoming your current XP-G2s, but the tint might become too warm/green.

With the drive current unchanged, compared to your current setup, the XP-E2 might increase the beam intensity some, but the output would be significantly less.

Garrybunk has some beam shots of one with Nichia 219C’s in his bike light thread. Doesn’t make the light a better thrower, but it may be useful information to you.

Thanks! I might try the dedome idea.

I'd really like to know how do these fare: Cree XP-G3 R4 8A3 Warm White 2700K LED Emitter

80+CRI warm emitters…my guess is they'll look and perform wonderfully at night.

Cheers ^:)

Random thought but leave two floody LEDs and two throwy LEDs. The throw will light father ahead and the flood will light the peripheral.
