Which movie did you watch lastֻ

We saw The Accountant last night. Went in with no real expectations, and it ended up being surprisingly good (and unique in its characters.) Those large guns gave the sub a good workout too.

Awesome! Never heard of it before, but looks like a good eerie flick. Impressive opening scene. :joy::eggplant::fire::100::ok_hand:

Surprised to see Arnold Moss in it. Just caught an ep of “Tales Of Tomorrow” that he was in, “The Bitter Storm”. Short but interesting. Shame that so many old-timey shows like that are a blink away from nonexistence. Were it not by pure chance that I was just flipping through stations, I wouldn’t’ve ever known that series even existed. And you can’t buy or even pir8 any of them, either.

Monty Python’s Life of Brian (1979)

Hadn’t seen this before. It was ok. Some of the jokes just didn’t land for me. For example, when Pontius Pilate is making a public announcment with a speech impediment and then hands it off to his buddy with a different speech impediment. The whole joke is that they can’t pronounce words and the people are messing with them. Ok…?

Honestly, the movie felt like a wasted opportunity. It would have been way funnier to keep jumping back and forth between what Jesus was doing and what Brian was doing. I guess they were probably afraid of getting in (more) trouble with censors and religious groups.

Also, like The Holy Grail, most of these bits are just as good without the context of the movie. You can watch every important scene on youtube and never need to see this movie. I don’t say that lightly either, normally I am against watching best-scenes on youtube because usually they benefit from being seen with context. To me, this is a special case. The fact that some actors play multiple roles actually adds to this phenomenon.

True prophets. Monty Python guys are genius to me.

talk about True Prophets…this movie is Prophecy…
2024, Plague, Climate Crisis. all from 1960.
oh, beautiful MUTE women, too.

I love Monty Python.
I’ve seen their TV series and all of their movies.
In recent years, I’ve only listened to their albums, and I don’t remember how much I liked Life of Brian, but I love the vast majority of their comedy.

Mr. Right (2015)

A woman (Anna Kendrick) comes to a crossroad when she finds out that her new beau (Sam Rockwell) is a professional assassin who kills the people who hire him instead of the intended targets.

I rewatched this movie last night and it’s still hilarious to me. So much of this film is objectively stupid, but for some reason I can forgive it. If you watch it, be aware that it was filmed for only $7.5 million. It mostly looks fantastic, but there are a couple of moments where the shoestring budget is noticeable. (shoestring after paying those two leads in 2015 anyway)

Just finishing watching “The Longest Day” (1962) for like the 3rd time in the past coupla weeks on MyMovies!, which doesn’t edit/cut except for the odd bleeped profanities.

Awesome flick…

Also, the original “Rollerball” (1975) was on over the weekend, twice in a row. Yeah, watched both. :joy:

Road House (Remake) Connor Mcgregor made a comedic sidekick appearance — I guess it’s a sign of my age, but Patrick Swayze and Sam Elliot just seemed more Bad Ass

It’s not your age. Remake just sucks.

Same like “Rollerball”. The remake was dumbed-down and made more of an “action” flick.

Saw new Ghost buster in the cinema today, reccomend it!

I haven’t watched a movie in quite a while.
Later today, I plan to watch Dune: Part Two.
I’m hoping it’s better than Part One, which was extremely boring.
(Just about the only thing it had going for it was pretty graphics (and great acting), which does not make a movie in my opinion.)
Anyway, I will keep an open mind about Part Two.

I saw Dune: Part Two (2024).

Wow, what a difference a sequel makes!
This movie is superb.
I’ve never before seen a Part One that is so weak and a Part Two that is so strong.
Once again, the acting is top notch, and the music is just okay.
The biggest difference between the two films is that Part One is pretty boring, and Part Two is actually entertaining from beginning to end.
There aren’t a lot of action sequences in Part Two, but it’s still quite fun to watch.
While Part One isn’t even as good as Dune (1984), Part Two is far superior to the 1984 version.
Hopefully the upcoming Part Three will be more like Part Two (and less like Part One.)

I almost believe that is the main question about a movie that has one good, and one bad, “predecessor”.
Deathpool 2 and Guardians 2 were a big disappointment to me. Only thing that matters is: how is part 3?
(BTW: I’m not asking for an answer because I’ll be watching them “when they come along”).

:+1:

I saw Evil Dead Rise (2023).

This movie is great.
The acting is pretty standard for a horror film.
The music is excellent.
The plot is a bit too simple for its own good.
This movie is creepy, disturbing, and extremely gruesome.
I didn’t write reviews of the previous movies in the series, so I’m not sure how this one stacks up, but I like Evil Dead Rise.

Watched " ANNA" a typical Luc Besson film — Looks like he found Milla’s replacement

I tried to watch ANNA, but the first major fight scene was so ridiculous I turned it off. I don’t remember exactly what happened. I wanna say that she ran into a room to melee a bunch of armed baddies and didn’t get shot. And sure, that happens in lots of movies, but I remember it being particularly unbelievable there, like maybe the choreographers were amateurs or something.

Edit: If the only reason the baddies miss is plot armor, that sucks. You need either great choreography or an in-universe reason for characters not to die. Nolan’s Batman gets a Kevlar batsuit, John Wick gets an armor-lined tux, and Joe (Eastwood) puts a metal stove door under his poncho. Or then there’s Equilibrium where the main premise of the combat is that Clerics are specially trained at making people miss (using a predictive system based on computer analysis).

BTW, another example of a film where everyone misses but it’s so egregious I found it hilarious: Underworld 5
