From the previews, It had the feel of a Remake.
Bosnia and Herzegovina during 1993 at the time of the heaviest fighting between the two warring sides.
8/10
For me the best part was
Summary
when Pedro Pascal’s character was schooling Paul Mescal’s character in the arena.
That was the only time it felt like I was really watching a Gladiator movie.
definitely recommend.
We saw The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (2024) with some friends over Xmas. It’s been a tradition for us to read the book out loud over the holidays, so we thought we’d give this a go. It was actually pretty good. Left some stuff out though and changed a couple things, but we chalk it up to book->movie transition.
Basically I recommend it if you’re looking for a good family Xmas movie.
There was a 1977 made-for-tv version with Loretta Swit that I do NOT recommend.
I saw Nosferatu (2024). His strong points. He went all out with the budget using a real castle in Transylvania. Costume design were great. Make up effects were great. It’s a slow burner for sure. The ending was sort of abrupt. Overall it’s pretty good. I’d still rank The Light House as my favorite of Eggers.
Fantastic cast. The pacing is so good that it doesn’t feel like almost 3 hours. Looks impressive even today due to the interesting way it was filmed. (three cameras for a panoramic picture= really high-resolution)
I saw Saturday Night (2024).
This movie is okay.
The acting is very good.
The music is suitable for a documentary/biography/drama.
The movie takes place in real time, starting 90 minutes before the broadcast of the first episode of SNL.
If the movie is based on true events, then it’s educational.
(I don’t think Lorne Michaels, the creator of SNL, had anything to do with this movie, so I don’t know how true the events of the movie are.)
The movie is not very entertaining, though.
Also, there are very few laughs.
The ending is superb, but the vast majority of the movie isn’t all that great.
This movie is rated R, mostly for a lot of strong language.
We saw Longlegs.
We were hoping for an insane Nicolas Cage performance, and we got maybe 10-15 seconds of what we were looking for, and the rest was pretty dull. This one is very unsatisfying to watch, and even worse, it seems to know that and be cool with it. Yuck.
Oh Geez. The Saloon Scene is precious.
The bullet train, some comedy and gore.
I think this one is a lot of fun, the only part that I didn’t like on rewatch was a bit of Michael Shannon’s performance near the end. It feels like the director egged him on to get the most extreme take, like Shannon went over the top on purpose to make the director look silly and then that’s the take they kept. Everything else pretty much worked for me though
Januaty the 1st, every man must to see the movie… Lighthouse
I saw it once, and I won’t ever be seeing it again. ![]()
Is that the Dafoe movie?
Yep.
I remember the last time I mentioned what I thought of the movie, someone suggested that I simply didn’t understand the movie.
(As if the only way anyone could not like a movie is if they didn’t understand it.)
The movie is easy enough to understand, but it isn’t very good, and this is me thinking about watching it again:

I’ve not seen that one. I believe it to be loosely inspired by the Smalls Lighthouse incident, something which is fully deserving of a movie, but having seen the trailer and read a couple of reviews I don’t think I’ll enjoy it. I have seen two of Eggers’ other movies The Witch and The Northman and am not in a rush to see either of those again.
Telling someone that they didn’t understand a film that they didn’t enjoy is pretty arrogant.
I saw The Witch.
It was okay, but too slow for me.
I liked The Witch a lot more than The Lighthouse, but everyone likes different movies. ![]()
So far I like anything with Anna Taylor-Joy…![]()
The Menu is awesome, did you see that one?
