Really didn’t like the 3 mode as much as the Single mode. Reason being that the switch is not as good quality for changing modes on some deals. Bought a few sets as gifts. The worse is 3 modes with the Silver head. I got to cannibalise the sets to make up a few good sets. The driver is not connected properly and such.
I’m not entirely sure either. But guessing I think they were trying to say:
-there are possibly hundreds of different SK68’s & clones out there (see the link they posted)
-and as there are so many clones, you cannot reliably know what you will get from any seller (as it might vary from shipment to shipment)
That said any SK68 is cheap enough that it’s unlikely to really matter. Pretty much all of them seem to work and are built in a similar fashion. If you get a poor example simply bin it and buy another from someone else.
Is the SK68 (or clones) the farthest thrower available for the size? I mean I can easily tuck this thing in my back pocket and not even realise its there…
Anything else this pocketable, that can throw farther? doesn’t have to be 14500…
Under $6, one mode, quality was just fine, as was ship time. Older emitter though, an XR-E, but not noticeably different in brightness than the one I have with an XP-E.
No and I gave it to my son. These clones really are a lottery man. You never know what is going to show up when you order one. Same thing with the Ultrafire C3 Stainless - I have one of each with different emitters, otherwise identical.
So I got the “DayXmas” seller version today. This is the “UltraFire 3-mode”. Looks nice. A few scuffs on the black paint near the back. The sliding zoom lens isn’t “smooth”….not super loose but it is pretty easy to move back and forth……doesn’t feel like it’s a finely tuned instrument. The light works well. Always comes on to “high” mode which I like, so it can effectively be a 1 mode unless I want to turn it down to LO. Forget the blinky….don’t know why they bother. Never gonna use that mode. I guess I don’t LOVE the slide to zoom because in reality I want it to be in the middle. I don’t like to see the freakin outline of the LED chip, but I also think it’s too diffused when pulled all the way back. The threads on the tailcap are fine and maybe even lubed. There is a small black O-ring there. Also an O-ring around the threads on the front cap that holds the plastic lens.
I left it on High for 15 mins and it was slightly warm….not hot at all.
Note that the package came from WWW.EACHBUYER.COM listed on the shipping label (on Ebay it was seller “DayXmas”). I went to that website and they actually had a 3-mode listed for 6-something whereas I paid $7.80 I think.
DayXmas sent a nice email the day after I ordered, and the light made it here in 11 days (bought on 9/11, here on 9/22).
I haven’t heard a peep from VIKICOMPANY on my single mode “UltraOK ZS2”……although I have high hopes that it may have a smoother zooming ring. It is single mode, but I’m thinking I don’t REALLY care about switching to low mode on my little AA light, so if the construction feels better, and it’s only 5 bucks instead of 7, then maybe that will be the one I give as a gift.
I need to compare the light output with my Eagletac P100A2. The feel of the “metal” on the Ultrafire vs the Eagletac is remarkably similar….the little crosshatch pattern, etc. For $7.80 I’m happy vs the $40 I spent on my Eagletac several years ago. I much prefer having some of these cheaper lights around so if the kids grab one I’m not saying “give me Daddy’s flashlight back please”.
In some ways the Ultrafire Sk68 is almost too small for me….prob just because I’m used to the Eagletac 2AA size. Maybe I just need to get used to it. Any recommendations for a sub-$10 2AA light that has a good (enough) quality like these Sipik clones?
Just a quick note - both of my UltraOK ZS-2s (one is a 3-mode, the other a 1-mode) have superior fit and operation over the Sipik or Ultrafire versions i have had. Tighter tolerances and a rubber o-ring seem to ensure this.
