Streamlight used to ,or perhaps still does, include a red piece of paper saying what batteries to use. Anyone know the back story on that? I don’t imagine back in the day too many people were using those unsafe chinese batteries.
My guess is that they have tested their lights extensively with the listed batteries and deemed them reliable. They market their lights to first responders, and rely on contract purchases. A failure, even if due to a battery could be very costly in any number of ways. So they would rather not have you just throw any battery in there.
Could it be a matter of size? Some Olight and Eagtac come with an adapter to use two CR123A batteries as one 18650. I’ve noticed that NOT all CR123A batteries fit in that adapter. And it can be very difficult to remove a battery from a light when it gets stuck inside.
I always thoyght it was so they had a lever for selling their own(over priced, under powered as I recall, just like their lights) branded batteries… its a marketing ploy.
This I think.
All the Best,
Jeff
The last SLs I bought to use CR123A was decades ago, and I can’t recall.
Approximately how long ago were you seeing those, and what cell(s) were they recommending? Was this pre or post 2009, and was it their own branded cells, or other / several types?
