worst leaker - alkaline or carbon-zinc?

what is the worst leaker - alkaline or carbon-zinc?

which one leaks fastest?

if it does leak (say you leave a battery in for 8 years), which one will cause the most damage?

(thinking here, of amount and corrosiveness of liquid)

wle

I’ve had many alkalines of different brands leak but I can’t recall every having a carbon-zinc one leak. So that means the alkaline leaks the fastest :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve had Duracell D batteries basically weld themselves inside of a couple of maglights but my impression is that my leaking AA and AAA alkalines were all about the same when they leaked.

If I recall correctly, carbon-zinc batteries do occasionally leak, but the secretion dries out pretty fast and becomes some kind of fluffy chalk. Brush that away and there is little to no harm done. Alkalines leak faster (certainly when empty) and the secretion keeps on dripping and eating away metal parts.

Edit: batteries in remote’s are mostly carbon-zinc.
