[WTB] Cree XPL-HI 2850k (HI-CRI) emitter

[WTB] Cree XP-L HI 2850k (HI-CRI) emitter

• need just 1 (will buy more if you have them)
• any bin okay (extra $ for U2/T5/T6 bins)
• open to buying lights with U2/T5/T6 bins

Don’t have this emitter myself, but consider a 519A 3500K sliced/dedomed. Essentially the same CCT, slightly rosier tint, higher CRI and R9, only downside being slightly less output, but doubt it would be noticeable.

thought about it but i’m trying to squeeze the most performance/throw out of a d25a ti (2017) and the xp-l hi is throwier while keeping everything i love about 519a

In a lower-powered light, there will be no difference in performance/throw. The output difference between these emitters only become visible at much higher drive currents like 5A.

The XPL HI might ironically end up less throwy than 519A at low outputs, due to sideways scattering by the transparent silicone cover. Dedomed 519A has no such problem.

I agree with @QReciprocity42 that a dedomed 519A vs XPL Hi likely won’t have much difference.

Have you considered an XPP 3000K 90 Cri. It’s been a while but I got some nice rosy ones from digikey. The XPP might make a difference in throw.

xp-l hi is brighter than 519a even at 1A and from experience will have my preferred beam profile… thank you both for your recs.

FYI, if you’re looking at LED tests, make absolutely sure that the XPL-HI and 519A are of the (1) same CCT and (2) same CRI class. AFAIK there’s no publicly available test of the XPL-HI at 2850K and 90+ CRI.

In any case, if you intend to stick with the XPL-HI, I’m afraid all I could do is wish you the best of luck.
