Ok, so I have this Maglite that has been ravaged by leaky batteries over the years. I have a few options.
1. Send it to Maglite at $10 shipped (without batteries!) in hopes they’ll take care of it and replace the switch. Even though it has some obvious battery damage.
2. Put it in my car with some name brand batteries and hope it leaks over the summer and let Brand X take care of it. I mean it has had several brand name batteries that have leaked in it, but I wasn’t aware that battery manufacturers covered this until recently.
3. Plead with a BLF modder that may have a few lying around in good working shape that they no longer need that they’ll mail to me on the cheap.
Right now the best option is 2.
If you’re a kind soul, here’s the type of switch I’m looking for. My flashlight was purchased probably right after the switch to LEDs. The serial # starts with “D” It is a 3D cell. I assume this switch assembly might be compatible with the incans. As far as I know, it is NOT compatible with newer switch assemblies with the “DL” serial number on the light.
Any takers? I’m looking to pay around $5 shipped… Maybe a tiny bit more.
It’s that Brass allen screw that holds the light at a certain height, it’s stripped out and has a brass sleeve around it so it’s actually hard to try and twist out with a pair of pliers. That and the switch sticks. I really tried to fix it but that stripped bolt it hard to remove to replace it with something else. The entire switch is so caked with crust though that it’s sort of in need of an entire replacement.
If someone doesn’t have the thing though, no big deal.
You need the socket. Is it the kind that uses the 'pill'/LED module that inserts from the bottom, or the older incan-style with a screw-down collar on the top?
That’s the part I don’t need. It’s the brass screw on the black part I need and the black part that has most of the chewed up plastic. I appreciate it though!
Op went to bed. I had no idea that this thread would have so many replies. Sorry guys. I need the entire switch assembly from a D Maglite with a serial # starting with “D.” I’m pretty sure (but not 100%) that this is the incan switch assembly too.
The whole enchilada. This thing. (minus the led and the sleeve that holds it in- those work)
There are several problems with it. You can’t tell but that brass screw is stripped and the switch section has problems operating because it’s chewed up on the inside. The thing is you either have to buy it from a place that charges almost the same amount as the entire flashlight or send it in to Mag.
Oh man, that thing has had a hard life, eh? lol (sorry)
I only have one complete early style assembly which I need to hang on to being they're so impossible to replace, but the spare bulb holder (#5) I have no use for and if that would have fixed you up I'd have gladly passed it along.
And yes as far as I know there are only two style switch assemblies, the incan/early LED one and the late (current design) LED with the little pill same as what's used in the AA MiniMags.
Good luck with your quest, I'll bet somebody here will have what you need.
I just sent the paypal- so everything should be good now. I really appreciate all the help. Now all I need to do is repaint the flaking reflector and it should be as good as new.
