I have no need for an actual tacticool light, but I do like tacti-light lights.
The ED20-T is still a favorite in most ways except for some really irksome “features”, and I wish Lumintop would modernise it without f’ing it up.
Love the dual tailswitch, one bump higher than the other. Lower one is on/off with a click, strobe for press’n’hold. Higher one is always momentary insta-turbo from off, mode-select if on.
But it’s got a frosty cold-white emitter that could do well in 4500K or so. I wish mfrs would stop chasing lumens in some numbers game and go for quality over quantity by choosing a more appealing light than just raw blue lumens.
And fattening it up to a 21700 would be great for a bit more heft and capacity, as well as thermal mass.
I almost always remove the damned clips as they just get in my way, but the captive clip on the '20-T would leave a gap almost as if the tailcap is partly unscrewed, so I grudgingly leave it in.
Also the “tactical ring” is, to me, always annoying as well. “Cigar grip” is a good way to lose a light if you trip or get knocked over. Like, just hold the light like a normal person.
Anyway, those last 2 are just druthers, and to avoid that annoying gap, I leave on the annoying clip and ring. But looooooove the dual tailswitch.
Oh, and HML just plain always sucks, so wish they’d change the sequence to LMH instead.
But the concept itself is quite nice, and the beam is pretty clean and usable. I prefer more flood than throw, as I’m 99% of the time looking at things only a few yards away or less, and prefer to not have to look at things with a laser-pointer. If I want a thrower, I’ll use a thrower.
I was even considering just slapping on some diffusion film on my '20-T to make it more usable, but it’d still be arctic white, so just leave it as-is.
My Tiny Monstor TM-03 is the same. You can configure turbo vs strobe as to which is which on its dual tailswitch. Other than to annoy people, I never use strobe, so for me, easy-access turbo is the way to go.
Not quite EDCable for me, as it’s rather big, but great for some sheer power, and has a great interface as well.
My MH20 was my Perfect EDC Light pretty much forever, with its 2-stage sideswitch. Hasn’t really been dethroned, but I put it somewhere for “safe keeping” when I was heavily using other lights to test out, and now got nfi where I put it.
Also got the “warm white” versions (neutral vs cold, really), as Nitecore is another mfr that chases lumens by using the brightest emitters which also happen to be the coldest and bluest. So technically, I got a few MH20Ws vs the usual MH20s. Their idea of “warm” is 5000K or so, vs the typische 6500K they’re infatuated with.
Best damned interface I’ve seen in forever, and the most compact light in 18650 format with charging that I’ve seen. Both the MH20 and Wuben i332 have nearly identical dimensions. The MH20 uses an 18650, but the i332 only manages to squeeze in a 16340. Not even an 18350, but a 16340!!
And my general opinion of Wubens is that they’re incredibly nice in hardware, but have braindead UIs. Like click-on and hold-for-off, unless you hold-for-on then have to click-off. Like… what?!?
So yeah, I wasn’t gonna spend the bux to try out that Wuben with the funky rear switch, as it might be another one of Those Lights which induce cumulative but irreversible brain-damage with each use.
